A.I. Artificial Intelligence (2001)
Some interesting plot ideas, but way too long and boring with bad editing
First off this movie should have been shorter. It's about 45 minutes too long at least with lots of very long slow drawn out scenes. Should have been edited down a lot. The plot is about as interesting as an average episode of star trek or any other si-fi show with interesting ideas, but it's just way too long and there's no real pay off.
Gigli (2003)
It's turkey time. Gobble gobble!
This movie deserves a 10 just for that line. I hope J-Lo says that to Ben as often as she can in their real life relationship.
This is a great "so bad it's good" movie. Most of the time it's a really stupid and cringe-funny ride and then all of the sudden Al Pacino shows up and does one of the best mob boss scenes around and it feels so at odds with the rest of the movie that it's shocking and hilarious in a good way.
Mystery Men (1999)
Pretty bad if you're not in it for the nostalgia
I remember this movie from when I was a kid and I thought it was pretty average back then. I watched it again recently wondering how it had aged... Lets just say for anyone who isn't watching this for the nostalgia is probably not going to like this movie. The only good thing about this movie is the characters are earnest but that doesn't do enough to make up for how boring they are.
Nine Perfect Strangers (2021)
Amazing so far
This show has a lot of depth. The characters feel very well portrayed. Not a show for everyone, but for anyone who can understand what it's like to go through a serious rut in life and want to seek a way out, this show is gold. I can see how this show would be hard to grasp for young people or people who just don't have a lot of life experiences under their belt.
Idiocracy (2006)
Masterpiece
First time I was this movie years ago it was funny because it was so ridiculous.
Now it's sad because it doesn't feel far from the truth.
Great movie.
Inside Bill's Brain: Decoding Bill Gates (2019)
History will remember
Bill gates will go down as one of the greatest people to ever live, somewhere around Edison and Einstein. It's truly fascinating to see how the man who basically invented software grew into a true life super hero using his money and intelligence as his super power. He's iron man without the suit. It's a good note for humanity to see that someone with such extreme wealth can be such a good person.
Whitney Cummings: Can I Touch It? (2019)
Great!
A well done stand-up that touches on some modern issues in a unique and thoughful way. The sex robot thing was hilarious. Very clever to do that, made it fascinating and hilarious at the end.
I just wanna add that I've seen some other stand up's recent that touch on these modern gender issues and go way too far one way or the other but Whitney managed to make it seem pretty even, giving both sides of the issues an even amount of love and hate so that it didn't feel like she has picking on anyone.
Just wanna point out though, it would probably be a lot less acceptable if a male comic rubbed a female audience members hair and joked about her climaxing because of it. That was the one brief thing that bugged me but only because the topic was how to avoid sexual harassment and how men shouldn't touch women casually thinking its ok so that bit was definitely at odds with some of the message before it, but only a minor issues all and all.
The Great Hack (2019)
Great breakdown of a inportant and complex issue.
Reading the reviews on here, its clear all the people who bothered to leave a bad review are just having a typical deny reality reaction to being forced to see a little behind the scenes on how they were likely manipulated to some extent by social media.
Katherine Ryan: Glitter Room (2019)
Comes off bitter and sad
I'm a man and I get that there are some double standards in comedy... but this is just bad. Make fun of men all you want but rather than having good jokes it comes off like she has some serious issues with men and berating them on stage is like some kind of self-care for her. It gets cringe-worthy at times and I even felt bad for her in a few instances where she leaned so hard into man bashing that even the mostly female audience was getting lost and their laughter dwindled before she shifted gears.
And I just gotta say, she starts off going really hard about how she doesn't want to be in a relationship with a men because men are like dogs and then she talks about how the last guy she got emotionally invested in moved to Japan thinking she should chase after him... she is so out of touch and clearly just a angry woman who dates men that suck (probably focuses too much on looks but IDK. Can't imagine what else would motivate a successful woman to chase a man to a foreign country because he did not sound like he had anything else going for him) and then blames all men. It's frustrating to hear about, like listening to a drama addicted teenage girl tell you about her relationship issues. I mean any normal person can tell from listening to her that she has no idea what to look for in someone to find a normal healthy relationship and hearing about her troubles with it is more frustrating than anything else. You just wish you could reach out and tell her to date a nice guy and move on with her life or come out of the closet already, or find some other topics for jokes.
TL,DR: Her spiteful jokes are gender specific and they don't seem like jokes. She seems like she genuinely hates men which kills the humor aspect of her act. It's hard to be funny talking about something you actually hate.
Also note how most of the good reviews seem to really enjoy the fact that this stand up was so focused on man hating. Clearing there is an audience for this kind of "humor". As others have said I do feel bad for anyone who feels like they can really relate to this, as something involving men must have really gone wrong for you.
Amy Schumer: Growing (2019)
Impressively bad
Amy Schumer in a nutshell:
Men make gross jokes in comedy and they get away with it, I'm going to do it too!
**makes one comedy special, is kinda funny just because it is actually slightly unique**
**keeps doing the same thing over and over and over even thought it wasn't even funny beyond the first time**
