A young Antonio Banderas takes the lead in this adaptation of one of the dullest books i've ever had the misfortune to read. The story follows a Spanish priest who's preparing to deliver a Requiem Mass to pay tribute to a local youngster who was brutally murdered during the Civil War.

Surprisingly, the story lends itself much more satisfyingly to film than is does to literature, and Banderas gives a truly sympathetic performance which grips the viewer right up until the inevitably tragic ending.

Highly recommended. But don't bother with the novel.

This is one good dose of sci-fi shenanigans. Quite spooky this time round, with a sinister feel we haven't seen before in the Star Trek series. Brent Spiner as Data steals the show again, and this is by far the rootin' tootinest piece of sci-fi hokum to have come from the next generation crew in years. This is one neat film, and I like it cos it's really good.

Ok, before I begin I'd like to clear up a little squabble. This sequel to the early 90s original is called Candyman: Farewell to the Flesh. NOT Candyman 2. Anyone who disagrees with this statement might as well have said the aforementioned killer's name a certain number of times. The film, obviously, loses any sense of the originality that made the first in the series so breathtaking, but so what? People who claim sequels of this kind are ALWAYS bad should not watch them, because they never will be as good as their originals. This outing sees the hook-handed serial killer return for another gut-wrenching, blood-soaked dose of supernatural shenanigans, with the emphasis on BLOOD. Because there's lots of it, which is not a bad thing, cos we'd die without blood. If that makes sense. Final verdict: watch if you're a fan, don't if you hate sequels. Oh, by the way, i liked it. But that's maybe just me.

A complete and utter MUST for Barbra Streisand fans - the Brooklyn songstress graces our screens once again with so many incredibly witty lines it's impossible to count them. What makes Streisand such a sheer delight is often what many may believe to be her downfall - her habit of playing similar characters. However, as she herself has claimed, she likes to put a little bit of herself into each, and does so masterfully, always, this outing being no exception. Ryan O'Neal too shines in true bumbling fashion, though never taking the gloss away from Streisand's truly awesome performance, delivering once again a touch of comic genius. Miss this at your peril.
