Cringeworthy in everyway!
So I read the synopsis about the show and loved it then saw the rating which is not so good and after some search, I arrived at the 2004 version of this show, watched the First Season in a night and I fell in love.
But then I decided to give this one a chance and that reminded of that time I ate a whole back of sweets and it gave me sugar rush... Only this time it is Cringerush.
I am neither white nor black nor American to begin with so I am not biased here... but what is wrong with this race obsession? People this is 2022, be a little bit progressive. It is not about the color of your skin anymore in most parts of the civilized world.
The agenda it is pushing is not even neutral. If I don't know what Woke is then I would call this Afrocentric.
And what is with white people being dushbags around every corner?
Synopsis: A ... the only thing good
Writing: D ... doesn't make sense
Acting: C ... can't complain
Why did they disgrace the original?
Fantasy Island (2021)
A Beautiful Fairytale
This is a series of mini stories about love, friendship, and life. While I hate how it focuses on woke agendas like other shows, there is always a good story in each episode.
I don't get the hate surrounding it either since it basically is an adaptation of the original Fantasy Island.
The end of it is that if you want a heartwarming story with some human moments, I think it is here.
Kate (2021)
Fun Movie
You'd appreciate a movie like this coming out from time to time. It is not a masterpiece but you feel for Kate during the struggle of her last hours and you also feel for poor Annie.
The ending is only predictable because the beginning established it in a certain way and the only to make it satisfying is to end it right.
Just some good fun.
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018)
Exceedingly Dull
I know I know, the previous two parts were great. First time we met Drake and Johnny, it was just nice. It had a good story and a bright idea with all the mess going on. The Second part had it good too as we saw how life went on after part 1 but here came part 3, it was like forcing us to laugh for some reason. I don't say it is bad but I don't like it personally. It didn't give anything new and just went with some dull jokes. It tried to offer something fun but I didn't see it... Maybe I'm too old to "laugh"... get it? That kinda joke.
Either way, it is great if you are under 12... or maybe 10... 12 these days are scary.
Messiah (2020)
The Messiah of Netflix is actually NOT BAD at all!!!
So, let's get straight to it. I am a Muslim and I studied Islamic Sharia in College. I also memorized the Sacred Quran to the best of my ability and had a mediocre knowledge of Hadith.
So how is this show NOT BAD .. well, it is full of problems but it is FICTIONAL based on superficial knowledge of Quran, Hadith, Bible, Talmud, etc about the prophecies of the End of Time from the 3 Abrahamic Religions; meaning you don't have to take everything with a grain of salt whatever religion of the three you belong to.
The STORY and without spoiling anything is thrilling. It portrays a man whose background is super mysterious and have awesome cheekbones, a man who can connect to the three faiths wonderfully. The fact that the actor is brown and not white is a naughty move by Netflix so thumbs up here. How the CIA is involved and how they explained the constant interference in the Middle Eastern affairs is logical.
What I don't see realistic is how Israel reacted to the Messiah movement and with a hint of spoiler here, it is not as violent as one would imagine. I mean... Israel!
Now here's what I HATE! I realize that they have people who are knowledgeable about Arabic and Islam in the Production team but seriously fam? Seriously? The Arabic Script is so Meh! It was basically written in English then translated to some lame lines. Also, the way they viewed a Radical Muslim Faction was not what I hoped they do. I know it is the trend of any Middle-East involved plot but at least show the bright side. The Middle-East is not some sandy desert of low-contrasted colors and hard minded people. It is a shame they didn't reflect the right image but whatever.
Back to the positiveness of this review, I think the actors were great. The Emotional, Impactful and Dramatic acting combined with the Calmness of the Messiah of Netflix.. it all made a very good show to mark the beginning of 2020.
I watched the 10 episodes and a damn good job.
The End of the F***ing World (2017)
A Love Story
"Most love stories start with murder, and that's what this is... a Love Story"
- Deadpool
To be honest, I wasn't expecting such a good thing while watching but it took me to the lands of feels till it ended. This is how a love story should be.
Raising Dion (2019)
All in all
This show proves that kids are stupid... and Parents too.
The scene that made me almost lose it was how the mom complied to Dion's mishap during the interview. There are two kinds of people you can't negotiate with: Terrorists and Kids.
Batwoman (2019)
Wrong! Just Wrong!
I am into girl on girl action as much as the next guy, Ruby Rose is good looking and cool (not that as an actress but still passes), Batwoman is a good idea and Gotham is my spiritual home but... this took every wrong turn as soon as it got the chance to do so.
So let's talk basics...
Production: Good... the show seems to have a good budget and acceptable team working behind the camera.
Cast: Ruby is a good candidate, Dougray Scott is great, the rest are potatoes... I mean have you seen that Luke Fox guy? Come on!
Drama: Rubbish, grandma is more believable as an actress and she is dead. Just step up your game, Rubbs.
The Message behind the Show: Have you seen how Superwoman went down? Yep.
LGBT stuff are not kinda my thing but it is pushed too far. You may get poisoning from all the toxic feminism oozing from the plot but here's a fun fact... LGBT doesn't make good Drama.
If you want to portray a main character as Gay or Lesbian then tone it down a notch, will you? Look, Gay won't make a good main and everyone is okay with Lesbian but make it cooler than this whatever that was.
Viewing males as the enemies of feminism and all that won't get you anywhere.
If you are selling media, make it more appealing. If it is against your agendas then whatever... The customer is always right in the end.
9-1-1 (2018)
Delicious Drama
I wasn't sure if I can start watching this. I mean... There are a ton of those police emergency firefighter shows out there but this one is seriously good.
I've seen the reviews about realism and how the show is throwing all the authenticity to the trash ... and it is good.
As an Author, simplicity is how you do things right. Binding yourself by the rules of what is real or not real lessens the space around Drama freedom and that's what this is... A Drama Liberated from what is Real.
Drama is like a Prince falling in love with a girl called Ella covered in cinder and being called Cinderella. Add Realism to that and you'll see Ella's head on a spike as the lowly commoner girl who dared to seduce his Highness.
This is Drama!
The Capture (2019)
Very Good
First time review and I am here to say that this is amazing! Simply amazing!
Maybe the main character (Shaun) doesn't show the reaction and the emotions a Character would normally show but still works well showing you that impatient personality, not very smart, not trusting, brash but still kind and looking for peace.
Carnival Row (2019)
Not Bad, Not Bad At All
Frankly speaking, I wasn't really expecting much from an Amazon show but it has the story, the plot, the action and very well rounded.
You may at first found yourself diving into the plot without a lot of explanation but it gives itself away easily and you just find it a very vivid and unusually realistic experience despite the fantasy genre.
It touches some Political manners and social conducts from the good, bad and ugly angles with that keeps things not too edgy by the end of the day.
The Lore is somewhat softcore which is a plus in my book so people don't get too much annoyed by the unnecessary details.
Also Cara Delevingne is so damn takented and beautiful with a lot of improvement in her acting skills ever since Valerian. Honestly, I don't know what she can't do after this point.
