Ted Lasso: Mom City (2023)
Really going to miss it
Ted Lasso is definitely one of my favourite series ever, I always loved Scrubs by the same main writer Bill Lawrence who back in the day made you laugh and cry with feel good mixed in for measure in most episodes. It's really sad that Zac Braff hasn't been involved for this series as he is an excellent director/writer and would have made season 3 even better. The brotherly relationship between JD and Turk, feels like they've tried to very slowly introduce it into the latest season. Being British this hits home more with the football and fans, even though it's a fairy tale, I really think Richmond are loosely based on Leicester and players (Jamie Vardy is the record breaker that is Jamie Tartt, Roy Kent as Roy Keane) and not so recently no one thought a team like Leicester could be promoted from the championship and would win the premier league so close after going up which is what all football fans know what happened. With that and the fantastic casting and character building, this episode is setting up for a near perfect finale. I think that people who say the show has lost its way and is unrealistic and cheesy forget it's built on something that no one thought was possible and it happened but they have made the backstory 10x better, I'm going to really miss this show but would also have so much respect if they don't milk it and instead do a Ricky Gervais where almost perfect shows are ended wonderfully with a lovely message to boot.
Maradona: Sueño bendito (2021)
Under rated Gem
IMO if this were on Netflix then this show would be talked about a lot more on social media and have a higher rating.
When I first started watching this around 2-3 episodes in it reminded me of the first time I accidentally stumbled across Cobra Kai on YouTube Red and wondered why a quality show like this was on a very relatively low par streaming service. The people involved with this have pretty much covered Diego
Maradona's entire life from 8 years old and it was absolutely fascinating. There are so many interesting facts about the series and if you're like me you'll be looking at Wikipedia and constantly pausing/resuming whilst watching (the Amazon x-ray thing is very handy) to read about the characters involved in his life and it was very colourful indeed.
I love the fact it mixes in real footage during certain scenes and is a brave but brilliant way to keep you interested. The end credits of each episode in particular are good with old photos and videos showing in real life what happened in that particular episode.
All in all if you're really a fan of Diego and I obviously don't know how much of it is true but it's really fascinating and taught me not just about Maradona but the politics and death the Argentines had to deal with in the 60/70s which was an eye opener.
I've seen the documentary from a couple of years ago and for me, the detail involved for me is far greater with the show and is well worth a watch.
BTW I'm a 43 year old fan from England and I still don't forgive him for Mexico 86 but I definitely have a new found respect for him after watching this show.
This Time with Alan Partridge (2019)
Classic Partridge
Steve Coogan and the writers have done it again, the wait has been well worth it and all 6 episodes have been layered perfectly. When I first watched and eagerly waited for every episode each week I thought they were good and made me laugh throughout. But every time I watch each episode now (which is every week at least) I notice more genius moments and makes me love it even more. It's up there with the beat AP series which is a bald statement I know and I really hope to god he gets a second series!!
