I don't get what's being said
7 April 2004
Warning: Spoilers
I'll give you that "Once Upon a Forest" is kind of an eco-toon. But I really don't think so. It's far more about the journey of the furlings; of them becoming adults. The poisonous gas is just a plot-device to make the trip necessary. And it was the result of an *accident*, not an intentional evil.

SPOILERS

And, in the end, humans come and clean up the mess. The only adult character, the only anti-human character, is amazed and awed. I think that directly contradicts the "humans are bad" message people are complaining about.

Not a great movie, but a decent time-filler
20 October 2001
I wouldn't buy this movie; it simply isn't worth the money. However, if you're a fan of the actor or the genre, or have a penchant for cheesy movies, check it out when it comes on Sci-Fi.

The overall premise of the movie is bad, but it is poorly executed. In particular, the young boy saying "Eleven" all the time makes little sense. I assume he's supposed to be another hybrid, but then why don't the aliens want him? Too young?

BTW, I would be extremely gratified if someone could tell me the name of the theme song. It's running rampant through my head, and it won't settle down till I give it a name. :)

Name of song
9 June 2001
I liked this movie. It's not great film, but it's a nice feel-good movie. I was far more interested in Alex than I was in Janine.

I guess I identify more with the unpopular girl than the supermodel. I'd look for fanfiction about this movie, except that i know it won't exist. It just seemed to me that Janine's relationship with her guy was not as deep. I mean the first words out of his mouth once he found out were "I went out with Janine Adams!" I'm not saying they didn't care about each other or anything. The two of them were just a little more surface stuff. But there's nothing wrong with that.

I'm trying to find out the name of the song playing just after they've switched back. When Janine is looking at the pictures taken in the photo booth, etc. Since they only played the intro, I never found out what the title of the song was.

If anyone knows, let me know.

Failing in all ways (aside from special effects) to live up to the original
21 January 2001
Okay, I dislike this movie intensely. I saw it before I saw Terminator, and I almost didn't watch the original because of it. I love the original, it had character and drama, and you felt something when you watched it.

The thing that most upsets me about this movie is that it all but totally disregards the original. Sure, the psychiatrist shows up, but that does not continuity make. Sarah was supposed to be strong and brave, and teach and guide her son. I didn't think that meant being an alcoholic female Rambo. That glimpse of her we caught at the end of Terminator was what she was all about. Sure, she was strong, but she had vulnerability.

John, though tough for a kid, lacks something.

And the cyborg (also 800 series) looks exactly like the first one? If they all looked alike, it would be pretty easy to pick them out after one revealed itself.

Ah, and the plot was absolutely grade-schoolish. Killing machine is redeem himself. While I have no problem with this plot in general, the Iron Giant (an animated film) managed to pull it off better than T2.

What it's all about
21 January 2001
While I freely admit that this is not technically a great movie, I like it. I liked the music and Pippi's bravery. It's not meant to be watched critically, witha fine-tooth comb.

When I watch it, I feel ten years old again, and that's what it's all about. :)

Not what it should have been
21 January 2001
When I first watched this movie as a ten-year old, I liked it. I went to the library and got the book.

The book is only about 40 times better than the movie. I know this is often the case with books made into movies, but usually you like the one you see first.

The story was completely changed. Some strange spiritual little horse statue was added, a greedy relative, and many of the characters were changed. The best aspects of the book were left out, and I won't watch the movie anymore. I still love the book even though it's been almost ten years since I first read it.

Higher Ground (2000)
One of the best shows I've ever seen
5 December 2000
Higher Ground is one of the best shows I've ever seen. I was truly disappointed to see it go off the air.

It dealt with things in as realistic a manner as I believe a tv show can do.

The characters and characterizations are consistent, if the characters arent'. You wouldn't expect children like them to behave consistantly. Sometimes they are friends and sometimes they are mean to each other, but the most important thing, is that they are all growing and improving.

The acting is fabulous. The writing is good, and concept is great. The music, though not fabulously well known, is extremly well-suited to any given moment. The song for the slideshow, composed for the episode, is perfect.

I for one, really hope PAX picks up this show.
