Elysium (I) (2013)
4/10
I am so disappointed !
11 December 2013
I've watched Elysium after reading the reviews here and was extremely disappointed. Mat Damon acting was great and so was the ideas behind the technology but the rest - the screenplay, sound, scenes, story. it was SO low. story was so flat. characters with no depth (maybe there was some in the book, if there was one). yes, district9 was different and this movie have the same "air" to it (photography-wise, sequences etc.) but the rest is just s**t. (sorry Mat) anyway, just got back from watching and I'm speechless. Waste of time. Waste of money.

To top it off, What amazed me most is the huge gap between the reviews here in IMDb and the movie I've just seen. many users gave it a rating of almost 7 so i guess they weren't all payed to do so, but it may say something about the common taste these days. (or maybe it is just me)

Vietnam in HD (2011)
5/10
apparently not only winners can write history
25 November 2011
yes, the footage is good, but as someone who's (too) familiar with combat situations and the history of war (the Vietnam war as well), I must say this isn't a documentary. The series try too much to show the US as the winning side in the conflict instead of covering the other aspects of the war. see how they emphasize the concept of "winning" after each and every scene and battle. If I had to summarize the purpose behind this series it would be "lets show all the great footage we got and present it as if America actually won the Vietnam war".

There are no winners in war. war is nothing more than a military means to a political end. it suck. it's horrific. but this series don't deal with the political aspects around the Vietnam war, so winning has nothing to do with it. This series claim to cover the historical aspect, so what's with all the claims of "we've won" this and "we've won" that.

Military is all about combat, tactics, weapons etc. but to understand war is to understand how we, as people, react to all the different aspects of it. If you're interested in the history of Vietnam war then I suggest you look elsewhere. Start by reading the "dull" history facts, then watch "china beach" to learn of the human aspects and the side-effects, and then try to get your hands on "secrets of war - Vietnam - hidden in plain site" (by the History channel) to understand how it looked from the VC side.

Learn about war so if you ever forced into one, at least be aware of the true nature and ramifications of it, on both sides.

Arctic Tale (2006)
10/10
A touching movie with a good cause that delivers the message!
27 September 2008
I don't see this as a standard documentary, or a documentary at all. This movie is about the lives of animals in the Arctic. Tough life as it is, and ones that become impossible because human race forgot that we have neighbors.

The movie doesn't try to teach you anything that most of use don't already know, but its doing a great job in creating a loving, compassionate emotions to the wonderful animals of the arctic that fight harder and harder every year just to survive. The story is sweet and touching, and the images are beautiful and make your love flow.

The only reason I give this movie a top rate is because (and I've waited the whole movie to see if they would) at the end it lets each of us help the arctic animals in their fight in the changing climate. The movie is doing so by giving the viewer simple, understandable tips for reducing energy consumption.

No one is asking for any donations here, or special effort, but only giving us suggestions for making minor changes in our way of life so these wonderful arctic creatures don't have to suffer any drastic changes in theirs and so they can avoid extinction. I would like my grandchildren to enjoy fresh films about arctic life and instead of watching movies like this as an evidence to the lives of species that are long gone.

Show it to your children, your friends, and everyone you can, to make them re-discover the love to nature we all buried under so much work and stress...and do something about it!

Too good to be naked...
7 August 2001
I've read many of the comments users sent, and I couldn't agree more about all the good things everybody wrote about Renee's acting. I think she's really great. I also think her acting is so good that many scenes where she's naked/half naked/less dressed could be more gentle, less vulgar. I really think many "less-dressed" scenes should have said to the viewers "this character is crazy, does stupid things sometimes, and doesn't give a f*** in the rest of the times". I really DON'T THINK there was any need to say "look, here's a movie where you can see her almost naked, her tits and legs are showed.." etc. Maybe with an actress who can't act that trick does the job and bring the people to the cinema, but not with such a good actress like Renee.

I really think she deserve better scripts then that, because she got so much to offer, and this kind of scenes just makes the movie look kind a low (if you know what i mean). Finally, if "the story" must show flesh, then there are much better and more esthetic ways to show what Renee's got - and she DOES, she's absolutely gorgeous !
