Jack Dee Live at the Apollo: Episode #1.3 (2004)
Season 1, Episode 3
9/10
Really funny.

Jack Dee pulls it off again. His familiar grumpy way just works for him.

Jo Brand is very funny, too. Her no holds barred approach to comedy is very British and I for one find it very funny.

Both host and guest works well.

Jack Dee and Ardal O'Hanlon both manage to be entertaining as well as funny.

Early sign of things to come in this long running series of shows.

Having only one guest is an advantage in a case like this, when the guest actually pulls it off.

A clash between British and American humour.

Jack Dee is good - as always.

Joan Rivers may be considered funny in the US, but her 'jokes' don't really work over here. Too pre-digested so you can safely leave your brain at home.

Jack Dee is ok.

Jack Dee is his usual grumpy self (which is a good thing).

Ross Noble just rambles on randomly for way too long. He almost, but not quite, manages to produce one joke.

I know that tickets for this show is free, but I would feel cheated, just by having to sit through Mr. Noble's ramblings.

Worrying
15 April 2022
Every show centers around Louis Theroux investigating one kind of mental midgets or another.

All Louis Theroux does, is what Nicolas Cage has been doing for most of his career: looking and sounding worried.

My least favourite episode.

I find Jessica Knappett absolutely intolerable. She completely ruins this episode by behaving like a drunk teenage misfit. Richard Ayoade does all he can to keep a straight face, but even he is obviously struggling.

Good - apart from Mr. Brydon
11 April 2022
In the early series, when Angus Deayton was the host, I thoroughly enjoyed this show. The format was a bit different, but still enjoyable.

It was ugly to see Rob Brydon appear as a guest early on. He did all he could to promote himself and all but took over the show. He tried the very same thing first time he was a guest on QI.

Horror of horrors. They actually fell for it and let Mr. Brydon host the show. For the worId of me, I can't see what this one trick pony brings to the show. He does a few old impressions and that's about it.

Contrived

I'm usually a big fan of James Acaster, but this 'show' manages to ruin not only him, but every single comedian on the show.

I don't feel Josh Widdicombe brings anything to the show.

I can only guess that people are paid very well to take part in this sad excuse for a show. I can't see how it does anything positive for their careers.

On my top ten list - of the worst films ever.
30 December 2004
Warning: Spoilers
(Contains minor spoilers)

This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. It's rare indeed to feel that you've completely wasted your time watching a movie, but that's exactly how I feel about this movie.

There are almost as many inaccuracies in this one as there are in 'The Passion of the Christ'. The script (if there actually was one) is almost as bad as Tom Green's 'Freddy got Fingered'.

It's rare indeed to see a movie with this many stereotypes. And of course the spider hybrid thing is ridiculous beyond belief to anyone with even a passing knowledge of biology.

I may have been a bit generous, but I gave it 2 out of 10.

Big Madam ?
9 June 2003
Elef lives in a society where everyone wakes up each morning with a new life, new house, new spouse, new kids, new job. Nothing is routine. Everything is controlled by a computer referred to as 'Madam Data'. One day he falls in love with Maya and wants to live with her - something quite impossible in such a society. From then on they try to find a way to break out of their society.

The movie has an interesting mixture of old things and scifi. It's as if it's an old scifi movie. The story is very different and quite good anyway. 8/10.

This movie really makes you think.
15 January 2003
Warning: Spoilers
(minor spoilers to follow)

This is quite a difficult movie to describe.

It takes place in 2021, but it's not exactly a bright future which is presented here.

It's a sci-fi movie, but apart from an aeroplane in the beginning of the movie, nothing much looks difficult from what we see today.

It's a thriller and it takes a long time before the audience is told what's really going on.

It's a romance, but it doesn't get romantic until the second half of the movie.

To sum it up, this movie takes a long time to get going, but somehow you're captivated through the entire movie. The 100+ minutes seemed to be over VERY fast, even though most of the scenes seem much longer than typical scenes from your average Hollywood movie. I'm not sure this is a movie for anyone with a short attention span.

I didn't understand Sean Penn's part in the movie - it seemed to be completely cut off from the rest of the movie. The idea of the people in Africa who suddenly was without gravity also seemed a little far-fetched and did little more than portray an even more mysterious world.

When the movie finished, everybody stayed in their seats and nobody said a word for a couple of minutes. I know I was thinking about what I'd just seen and I think the rest of the audience did the same. For me it took a few hours to make most of the pieces fall into place.

Right now I'd say 8,5 out of a possible 10, but this may change, when I've had some more time to think about it.

Thoroughly ridiculus... (Containing spoiler)
14 July 2001
Warning: Spoilers
Having read a couple of books on the capture of Enigma from the Germans, which is the central theme in this movie, I was shocked by the story told in this movie.

I don't know why it seems to be more important to Hollywood these days to glorify America than to tell a story the way it actually happened.

I found this movie both predictable and unrealistic at the same time.

Why is it that the heroes are able to hit an enemy with a torpedo at first try using unfamiliar equipment while successfully evading numerous enemy torpedoes ?

Why are they able to evade a destroyer and sink it using one single torpedo, which they're only able to fire, because a vital repair is finished about a split second before they had to fire the torpedo, less they be killed ? How can they do it in a uboat which is able to do little more than float ?

Why is one single American portrayed as being more clever and skillful than an entire uboat filled with Germans ?

Why are the characters in this movie so shallow, that you can predict what's going to happen to most of them ?

I was left with a feeling like I had just been subjected to a couple of hours worth of really bad propaganda.

Even better than Fucking Åmål
12 October 2000
Having thoroughly enjoyed Fucking Åmål, I was wondering if Lukas Moodysson would be able to make a new film which was in the same league. Together or 'Tilsammans' as it is called in Swedish is an even better movie than Fucking Åmål. This is not your typical run of the mill Hollywood movie. It's a very special movie, which ought to appeal to a large audience. You laugh a lot during the movie and when leaving the cinema it's kind of difficult to digest the experience you've just had. You feel aroused in a way, which only a very few movies achieve.
