Straker does have emotions and it sometimes blinds him

Other reviewers seem to have missed the point that Craig Collins is an old friend of Ed Straker's and that while the Commander of SHADO likes other to think he is coldly logical with no feelings at all times, it simply isn't true. He was clearly hurt by his wife's actions in her appearances. He had an emotional reaction to Colonel Foster being beaten up. His not believing his friend is not himself is a perfect normal human reaction.

Also given all the comments about cast members from The Prisoner appearing in previous episodes surprised no one noticed Derren Nesbitt was one of the Number Twos.

How the last day of the Time War began

Second of two short prequels to The Day of the Doctor, 50th anniversary special. It's the beginning of the end for the Time Lords home planet when Gallifrey is invaded by Daleks at the end of the Time War. Not as good as The Night of the Doctor, but still interesting. We see the invasion from the point of view of a Gallifreyan soldier. The viewer sees what's happening as if he or she was the soldier.

A new recruit is fitted with a video recorder in his own head so that when he dies in the war his family, assuming they survive, will have a record of his last moments. The other soldier doesn't actually expect the Daleks to break through as no one has ever broken through Gallifrey's security before.

The new soldier keeps having this short and frighting visions, which he's told are not prophetic glimpses of the future but are just glitches in the system. Being a war involving time travel they actually are visions of things that are to happen. Or have already happened but been changed so they didn't. In any case, being shown how to use the scanner he's told to pretend a distant object on the screen, probably just a bird, is actually a Dalek. Then horror of horrors when the scanner locks on to the object it turns out to actually be a Dalek. And its not alone. The episode ends with the new soldier hearing "Exterminate!" and the blast of a Dalek gun.

the silliest tokusatsu (Japanese science fiction)

I've only seen the first four episodes but they were the silliest of any Japanese super hero series I've seen, and I've seen a lot. Ishinomori, Shoutarou (creator of the characters) and Hirayama Toru (series producer) seem to be poking fun at the genre they helped to create.

Just what is the secret of the flower blooming song?

great fun for fans of Japanese science fiction TV

Not only is the movie great for martial arts fans but its also fun for fans of tokusatsu (Japanese science fiction) as its full of tokusatsu actors/actresses. Shihomi, Etsuko played Mari in Kikaida-01. Miyauchi, Hiroshi (star of Kamen Rider V3 and Kaiketsu Zubat, the Blue Ranger in Goranger, Big One is JAKQ, mentor in Ohranger, cop in 3 metal heroes series) plays her brother. She beats up on Oba Kenji (Battle Kenya in Battle Fever J and star of Space Sheriff Gavan) who works for Ishibashi, Masashi who was Iron Claw in JAKQ and the 2nd highest ranking villain in Battle Fever J. The music is even by Kamen Rider composer Shunsuke Kikuchi.

Kaiketsu Zubat
Kaiketsu Zubat (1977)
Modern east becomes old west.

If you like old western movies or TV series you'd enjoy this series which though it takes place in modern Japan features characters who dress and behave as if living in the American west of the 1800s.

This is also a great series for fans of Miyauchi Hiroshi (Kazami Shiro in Kamen Rider V3 and the blue ranger in Goranger) who plays private detective Hayakawa Ken and the whip whielding hero Kaiketsu Zubat.

Kyo Kensuke's wonderful music is reminiscent of the western movies this series is patterned after.

1980s version of Kikaida

With the success of their Metal Heroes series Toei decided to bring back the red and blue android, but instead of continuing the Kikaida story with the comic character Kikaida-00 (pronounced oh-oh), they created a new character. Metalder is not as fun as Kikaida but probably one of the best series of the 1980s.

The movie that ruined Godzilla

This movie began the worst series of Gojira (Godzilla) movies. It turned Godzilla into a mindless beast bent on destroying anything in its path. During the '80s and '90s Godzilla movies were no longer fun. Skip this. Stick with the 60s and 70s movie and the 2000 film.

The first (and best) of the sentai series

"Secret Task Force Goranger" is not only the first sentai series, it's the best, and longest lasting (84 episodes). Sentai is a military term, it means taskforce. Unlike the characters in most of the later sentai series the Gorangers are professional soldiers, trained for combat.

There are no giant robots in this series so the action focuses on the fiver rangers themselves. Fans of Kamen Rider V3 will recognize the blue ranger (he played Kazami Shiro).

The only major flaw in this series is that it used as background music themes actually composed for "Jinzo Ningen Kikaida" and "Inazuman" (along with original music).

Zone Fighter
Zone Fighter (1973)
Great fun

After the destruction of their own planet, Peaceland, the Zone Family, battle the Garoga Army to save Earth.

This is a fun series, with the strangest monsters on television. Better than any of the Ultras because the hero is actually on screen for more than the last 2 minutes of every episode.

Guest appearances by Godzilla, Gigan and King Ghidorah.
