Ônibus 174 (2002)
Great Doc!
I am not going to rant the storyline, you can figure that out. But if you are into docs that can effect you, then definitely seek this one out. I have to admit, the pacing is slow at the very beginning but I think that was deliberate, cuz by the end you are glued to what unfolds. Maybe it's to mirror the pace of the events of the hostage taking? Doesn't matter, if you stick with it till the end, you will be faced with some hard questions about violence, power, the media, poverty, I think certain types of docs leave you searching for more answers, sometimes to questions that don't have answers. Thats a good thing.
The Straight Story (1999)
A subtle beauty you have to be open to
Some of the commenst like "Lost me in ten seconds". only highlight the subtle strength of this film. It's not for everyone, and even if it is for you, don't watch it with people who aren't into it. The nuances of the performances demand your attention. But you'll be rewarded with a experience that truly highlights the power of film. I live in the prairies up here in Canada. Those shots of combines harvesting, the rolling landscape, they hammer home again the sublte beauty of the landscape. Sure we don't have mountains but as you can see, rolling prairie has it's only thing about it. Oh and further to richard Farnsworth, I highly recommend his performace in the movie The Grey Fox. It's a Canadian classic and a true story about the train robber Billy Miner after he gets out of jail. Agian he is a man out of sync with the times and struggles. Great film as well. OOK eh? I'm done
