Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Big wide smile
I saw this movie last night, May 17th, and although I was a bit unsure about it´s quality, i left the theater wild and happy. - SOME SPOILERS -
Attack of the Clones kicks off with an assassination attempt on Queen Amidala, and the sense of danger sets the tone for the first few scenes, as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker are chosen to protect Amidala. Another attempt at the queen´s life, and the movie enters it´s real story, as Obi-Wan searches for an unknown bounty hunter, and Anakin stays behind to guard and protect Amidala, while at the same time falling more and more in love with her.
I´ve seen people criticizing the film´s love story, but I think it fits perfectly with the movie. It allows it to start slow and build up into the action-fest that is the ending. Anakin´s change is pretty visible in the movie, and my favorite scene is definitely when he travels through Tatooine searching for Shmi, and the slaughter that followed. Hayden Christensen IS Anakin Skywalker, and some of his lines gave me shivers. The rest of the cast is pretty good too, with Ewan McGregor growing more and more into a young Alec Guiness, his good humor came as a breath of fresh hair for some of the scenes. Natalie Portman, Samuel Jackson, Christopher Lee, they all play their parts well, and I enjoyed watching Natalie´s character becoming a bit like Leia from the Original Trilogy.
That´s also an important part of the movie, as it is filled with references and explanations of myths and stories of the original movies, including Boba Fett, the whole creation of the Stormtroopers, how Anakin came to lose his arm, and just how exactly does Yoda fight (As everyone else said, he KICKS ASS!) and many more. Those moments were the best for me, as being a fan of the movies, I was thrilled to discover more and recognize certain events, and I saw them with a big wide smile, happy because the movie truly returned the feeling that the original trilogy gave me (something that The Phantom Menace, even if not has bad has many have said, was never able to do).
This is definitely a movie for the fans, but is very open for casual viewers too. Go see it now!
The X Files (1993)
Simply the best
The Best. Now, the following comment, is about an episode I saw yesterday. I don´t know the real name of the episode, but it´s that one filmed like a COPS video show! You know! I have to say, it´s really great. It could have been made better, but it is still good. :) It was like blairwitch project or somethin! too bad we never saw the Wasp Man!
People Like Us (1999)
The best sitcom I have seen, second only to Seinfeld.
I really love this sitcom. It´s a breath of fresh air from all those stupid moronic American trash proggies (with exception of Seinfeld, that is). For starters, there is no laugh track. Nobody laughs in the show. I simply love that. It´s great! You don´t hear those damn idiotic laughs that are crammed all over other sitcoms. Second, it´s filmed as a documentary. The basic premise is this guy, Roy Mallard, that walks around interviewing people at work. For example, a headmaster of a nice school, a freelance fotographer, people like that. So, in the beginning, every thing seems quite Unfunny, but then stupid things start to happen. People do mistakes, and funny things, altough they don´t even understand it. For instance, Roy is always saying "Hum" and "Hun hun" in order to advance in the interview. The show is excellent, and I really can´t describe accurately. You have to see it for yourself.
Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000)
A nice flick.
I liked this movie. It was pretty cool. It has it all: cars, gun shooting, fighting, and even a token girl. It does not excel in any of this things, with the exception of the cars. A bit of shooting, a bit of fighting, a bit of smooching around, and LOT´s of car, with a great chase near the end. The jump, you may say, is impractical, but according to our good friends here at the IMDB it is possible, so the movie ain´t as bad as people are painting it. It has some quality, and I liked to watch it. In fact, I loved the film. And I didn´t need to turn off my brains to watch it. I wasn´t always thinking "Is this possible?" or tramp like that. 9 in 10.
Médico de Família (1998)
Crap-o-rama
In one word: C-R-A-P-O-R-A-M-A! Don´t see this! Even if your life depends on it! Crappy Comedy meets Horrendous Family Drama! YEh! It´s SO HORRIBLE!!! So, it´s about this family, with many problems, since a kid that doesn´t wash his teeth, a pre-pubescent girlie type, a radical teen, and a cast of plast.
