Going to Extremes (1992–1993)

Still love it after all these years
17 May 2015
I too loved this show and was terribly disappointed that it ended so soon. The medical student characters were believable, and provided realistic role models to viewers as they adjusted to life in a society so different from their own but deserving of respect. The Jamaicans portrayed exemplified dignity and resourcefulness under very restricted circumstances. Perhaps the emphasis on poverty and naivety among the local populace caused some discomfort among viewers but surely these issues could have been addressed in later episodes. I will never forget the Nyabinghi man who would disappear into the hills, and I still enjoy my own "Nyabinghi" days alone with my own thoughts, stress-free, and at peace.

Very worthwhile movie

Just a Grandmother in the suburbs, but so glad I found this excellent movie offered free by my cable company. From what some of the other reviewers have said, it would be well worth my time to get the DVD (and a new TV)for some details I missed and the extras on the DVD. I'll be looking up the book too.

And the music is awesome.

I do agree the sex/romance content detracted somewhat from the credibility of the film: 2 of the women did not appear to have any other life or function than fawning over their men. But isn't that always the way?

Disappearing Acts (2000 TV Movie)

Hooked from the start

Warning: Spoilers
I found this movie while surfing the channels and was hooked from the start. I don't know any of the actors and have never read the book. I thought the couple had tremendous chemistry and acted their parts perfectly. The families of Zora and Franklin were well-cast and believable. The only criticism I have is regarding Zora's 2 girlfriends;I felt their portrayals lacked subtlety. Elements of the story were very familiar to me and heartbreakingly true to life. I will certainly read the book now, and this is one movie I will watch again and recommend to friends. (I hope this is not a spoiler): Perfect baby casting too.
