Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
Smith at his best
I'm not a huge fan of Kevin Smith's movies, and really don't see what the big deal is about them. I've enjoyed all of his films, but none of them blew me away. Then came Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and I'd have to say that Smith's made not only his best movie yet, but also one of the funniest movies I've seen in a looong time. I rarely laugh out loud at a movie, particularly at the theater, but this movie had me laughing out loud from beginning to end. My only complaint about the movie is that it ended too soon.
The Art of War (2000)
The first half-hour was all I could stand.
This comment is for the first thirty minutes of the movie because that's as much as I could watch it. The movie was boring and cheap looking. The plot was the average cheap action movie plot. Also, despite the fine cast, I felt like I had rented a straight to video movie.
The rest of the movie may have been great though.
The Shining (1980)
Read the book instead.
I saw the film about a year ago and thought that it was boring, plot-less and badly acted. I recently bought the novel to see who was to blame, Stanley Kubrick or Stephen King. Before I had gotten a quarter of the way through the book I had the answer, Stanley Kubrick. After reading the entire book I see that the movie was even more lacking in plot, acting and scare factor than I had thought. The first half of the book is more entertaining than the entire movie in my opinion.
Safe House (1998)
Boring, boring, boring
The end is fairly good, but the movie's setup drags on and on forever. By the time anything really happened, I didn't care anymore. If I hadn't rented it I probably would have turned it off before the end. Bottom line: Boring.
