Ultraviolet (1998)
What? Only six hours?
I'm a big fan of sci-fi and vampire TV shows in the United States (Buffy, Angel, Star Trek, to name a few) as well as cop shows like Jag and Nash Bridges.
Ultraviolet caught my attention because it seemed to be a hybrid of both types. I watched the whole six hours in three days, and was left with only one regret.
That being, that it was over. It was an EXCELLENT miniseries, probably the best non-historical miniseries I've seen in several years. I especially liked the special effects, as well as the way the main characters grew, not just in ways relating to the story, but as regular people.
My one suggestion, if the producers of Ultraviolet are reading this, is to turn it into a regular TV series. I know at least one American who'd watch it... who knows how many on your side of the ocean?
The Wonderful World of Disney: Model Behavior (2000)
Don't judge a film by the credits.
I really liked this film, especially the plot and the looks and acting ability of the lead actress. I did have some major objections to the casting (specifically of Mrs. Gifford and her son) for the other main roles, but their performance surprised me.
I also thought that this was an interesting twist on the Disney-standard switching-roles movie plot (neither twins, nor relatives even, but simply look-alikes). It kind of alluded to (and in one case, a character even mentioned) the "Prince and the Pauper" as well.
Also, I thought the visual effects were very well done, especially the scene in the restaurant bathroom with the mirror.
