See Arnold Run (2005)
Poorly made film and an even worse lead character
The younger Arnold bore an uncanny resemblance to the real thing. Looks like he can act as well. However even he could not copy Arnolds very odd accent. Jurgen Procknow was too old, too small and his attempt at the accent totally pathetic. He delivered his lines in a Churchillian style, totally different from the real thing. As Maria Shriver, Hemmingway was good but a bit overweight. The best performance by far was Arianna Huffington, beautifully portrayed. All in all a disappointment because of the flashbacks, far too many. Less and longer would have been better because Arnold's real character is still somewhat of a mystery.
Vera Drake (2004)
Confirmation of the fact that real people like Vera existed
Many years ago, in 1953, to be accurate, girls were a lot more difficult to get into trouble. I should know because I was pushing 21 and still a virgin.
I was in the business of selling typewriters and one day met a beautiful girl in an office. I invited her out for a drink and a couple of weeks later spent a Saturday morning with her on her boss's deep pile carpet. She solved my problem in no uncertain way. I felt 10' tall.
However a couple of months later, having not seen her in the interim period I got a phone call stating that she was pregnant! The problem was she was married and her husband had 3 months left to go in the British army in Germany. She tried all the usual methods, a bottle of gin in a very hot bath etc.etc. Nothing worked, she talked to some older married women who gave her the address of an old woman who performed abortions with knitting needles etc. A terrible risk to take but she was the only solution. But all went well. And she did not charge for her service because I offered to pay. She saved 3 lives from ruin really by her actions. A true Vera Drake it would seem.
