Amélie (2001)
10/10
Movie Magic
26 September 2002
Movies are for entertainment. Movies are for dreaming. Some use it for philosophy or to practice cinematography techniques, but in the end, the whole idea is to have an experience. Amelie is a wonderful experience. The tag line says that "she will change your life", and if you're in the mood, she will do it. The marvelous music, all the special effects (yes, the movie is full of them), the cast, and all the details are intended to give us an experience of love, optimism and wonder for simple things. Those who find failures on plot or philosophical ideas from Mr. Jaunet, are missing the point.

Arnold as usual but a very bad script
8 February 2002
The plot of the movie has some good points, but overall is bad. First, the depiction of Colombia, as a violent country where no one can put a foot on, is not only wrong but misleading. Second, the movie begins like a "looking for the bad guy" story, then turns into a "commando" story and then jumps again, losing all sense and ruining the fun. Last, it has glimpses of criticism about USA's intervention in other countries, but ends justifying everything they do, even killing more people than the terrorists. It doesn't worth mention the unbelievable situations that ocurr through all the movie. Good action sequences, and the usual action hero from Arnold is all you can look for.

The funniest Pardavé movie
28 November 2001
Considered in Mexico a cult classic, El Ropavejero is, perhaps, Joaquín Pardavé's funniest work.

The chemistry between Pardavé and Sara García is wonderful, and was repeated fully in many movies.

Excellent under-rated Mexican movie
28 November 2001
El Héroe Desconocido (The Unknown Heroe), is based on a novel from young Miguel Alemán (former Televisa executive and actual governor of Veracruz, México). It's a wonderful movie yet under-rated because it belongs to the years where Mexican movies were really bad.

Very interesting tale about a man with financial problems in the fictional town of Valle Verde in Mexico. Looking at old photos he "creates" a noble ancestor from his family, and go looking to collect money to raise a monument in his honor, but with the intention to keep the money to himself. The whole town changes when everyone tries to take advantage of the new unknown hero.

A very good and fun vision of the "greedy" side of Mexican people.
