Queer Eye for the Straight Guy (2003)
I watch this every week
Let's face it some people need a kick in the pants if not a new pair of pants. I like this program. I think the 5 guys are entertaining and considering there are cameras following theme around they all seem pretty genuine although Carson flames a bit but you can tell he's like that all the time and not just for the cameras. They are doing the jobs they love and helping some poor filthy guy out is a bonus. I know there are gay men that need help (bobby trendy?) but it seems that most of the hetero men being 'eyed' on this show really want the help. I love the way the 5 all cringe when the heteros 'speed shave'. I'm a hetero female and I find it very entertaining to watch. Thinking about it though, it really doesn't matter that the men are gay, it could be called 'Professional Eye for the Amateur Guy' but then it would be 'What not to Wear MEETS every DIY show on cable'. So the gay aspect is the show's hook. It would be just as good if the word 'gay' was never used, but the comments wouldn't be as clever (like when Kyan was wearing a cowboy hat that belonged to one of the their target guys and Carson called him 'George Gay' (instead of George Straight). I like everything about QE.
Last Comic Standing (2003)
Some of the comics were professionals
I watched all of the first show but only watched the last 15 minutes of the episodes because that is when the jokes were. I don't like that 'real world' junk.
Meanwhile some of these folks have been in movies and are professional comics! I thought they were supposed to be struggling comics. Maybe if I had watched more than the last 15 minutes of the shows I would have known that!
Bottom line: glad it's over. Let's not do it again.
Mulholland Dr. (2001)
I was hoping for a new movie but...
this was mostly just Twin Peaks. I like to go to a movie and have it be thought provoking and something to dwell on, but if I had seen it at a theater I would have probably forgotten about it on the drive home. As it is, I rented it and will probably forget about it on my walk back to the video store to return it. I just didn't like it.
Best in Show (2000)
Funniest in Show!
I just saw this movie and I am still wiping away tears from laughter. I can't say how good everyone was in 1,000 words or less so I won't even try. I will say Christopher Guest was amazing, but so were they all. I wish I knew how to write a letter to them and tell them all. Every funny person I know was in it except Martin Mull and Michael McShane so they must have been out of town when this thing was cast. Kudos to Stuart Aikins and his remarkable casting talents. The best part about it was that there was no evil nemesis trying to sabotage anyone and slow down the story. It was fast and funny and I LOVED IT!!!
Grosse Pointe (2000)
I think it's nothing but funny!
I live in London, England and they have recently started televising Grosse Pointe. I think it's funny. Unfortunately, today (14-Nov-01) I found out the show has been canceled. That's too bad, I think it's a scream. On the show within the show Grosse Pointe is supposed to be funny and the actors bad, unlike 90210 where the show was funny and the actors were bad and we weren't supposed to notice, I guess. I love the character Marcy, she is such a Tori. The whole thing is a hoot!
Outlaws (1986)
Every series I like gets canceled.
I lived in Houston, Texas and since this show was based in Houston, I decided to watch it. I enjoyed it therefore I knew it would be canceled. I though the writing and acting were excellent. I was sad when it wasn't renewed for a second season. Sadly since they only made 13 episodes it probably won't be rerun, unless there is a Western Cable Channel that I don't know about. If you do see it in your local listings, watch it. It's a hoot.
Bowfinger (1999)
I thought it was funny.
I thought Bowfinger was just plain funny. I enjoyed Ed Wood and this was practically the same movie with a little twist. I also noticed a goof when Jif came into the house and told Bowfinger that he had just had intercourse. Bowfinger said 'Kit come into my office'. I guess he could have said Jif, but it sounded like Kit to me. I recommend this as a rental.
The Baby of Mâcon (1993)
Confusing.
I saw this movie on late night television and that could explain my confusion but I do not believe that I could have understood this movie if the writer were sitting next to me explaining it as it went a long. I have no comprehension of the ending.
Chocolat (2000)
You will like the movie, but read the book first for a more enriching experience..
It always amazes me how much they can change a book yet keep the gist of it for the big screen. How one character becomes two, characters are added or deleted, the sequence of events change as well as the events themselves even the ending is sometimes different (all of these examples are true for this movie) I was a bit angry at some of the changes but when I saw Joanne Harris' name in the ending credits as an advisor (she's the author of the book), I let it go, if she thought the changes were okay, then they are okay with me. I finished reading the book on Monday morning and decided to go to the cinema to see it on Tuesday afternoon. It was a good movie but there is just so much more to these characters and it's all in the book. So if you want to see the movie, read the book first, I read it in 2 sittings...but I didn't have anything else to do...enjoy!
Broadcast News (1987)
I thought it was funny.
SPOILER ALERT I think this movie was out around the same time as the movie Switching Channels and they cancelled each other out. I enjoyed this movie but my favorite part was very near the end of the film, Holly Hunter goes to the airport to meet William Hurt to tell him she will not be going with him on the flight because he faked his tears in a scene. He tells her that he will be going on vacation either with or without her and if she changes her mind the plane leaves from Gate E2. He turns around and walks under a sign that very clearly shows: Gates E1-E5 with an arrow pointing to the left....He walks under the sign and turns to the right!! All I could think was that he would turn around and walk the other way and it would become a funny moment, but nope. That was that. It ruined the moment for me...I fly a lot so maybe that's why I noticed it...
