Galaxies Are Colliding (1992)
One that was made for me!!
Roger Ebert once said that every once in a while. Certain movies come along where you feel that they were just made for you. Meaning you identify with the plot and/or character's of course.
Galaxies Are Colliding feels like it was made just for me. As of late. I think I am Adam. Whenever I go to the bars. I'm stunned and saddened at how cruel people can be, just by overhearing conversations. Like Adam. I've been more in touch with the suffering of the world and not so much my own. I am happier being by myself while trying to figure life out. All that's missing on me is the shades and tux. LOL
I really like how real news photos (ranging from WW2 to African children)were used. They popped into his mind and he couldn't shake them.Others look and just go about the day.
Other movies along these lines are My Dinner With Andre, Vanya on 42nd Street, Commandments, and Critical Care. True I would have to say all of them are a bit more grounded than this one. Glaxies.. has been playing all month on the HBO's. It has more heart than MindWalk which has also been playing and is way too scientific.
Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
Good movie, not as graphic as made out to be.
I liked this one. The whole time I was watching it, I couldn't figure out why it was put in the "horror section" at the video store. I think it deserves to be in Drama. At the end of the video, they had a recent interview with the director, and it was the decision of the producers to make it and market it as horror.
It was made in 1986. For years I had heard how graphic it was. I forced myself to rent it. I'm sure back in the day it may have made some viewers sick, but it is mild by today's standards.
At times I felt bad for Henry. The man was seriously sexually repressed and confused. It seemed that everytime he would get "turned on" by a woman, he couldn't relate and that cause his killing streaks. The murder at the end made me sad. I didn't want it to be what I thought. I was so on edge that I fast forwarded a little to only be proven right.
This is Rooker's first film. He does a great job making Henry a soft spoken gentleman and madman all in one. I actually disliked his buddy Otis more.
