The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Not nearly as good as the first...
Too much fighting, not enough story. I actually got bored during the action sequences. I never felt like I got to know what was going on inside Neo's head during this movie. Morpheus was too preachy. There were too many different characters and scenes that didn't really add value to the story, but were for eye candy purposes only. And the Brothers W don't even have time to redeem themselves with the third installment since it's already in the can. I'll wait for the DVD to see that one. A real disappointment.
Fantasia 2000 (1999)
Boring!
I was very much looking forward to enjoying this film as much or more than I enjoyed the original--to my disappointment. This is a hollow rehash of the original, uninspired, and for the most part, unimaginative. I wanted to walk out of the expensive IMAX theater within about 20 minutes. And, geeze, if they wanted to put something from the old film into the new film, they could have chosen a better segment than the Mickey one, or at least fixed the resolution so it wasn't pixelated. Oh, well. Par for the New Disney's course.
Gun Shy (2000)
Too much bathroom "humor"
I love Liam Neeson--I've seen nearly every movie he's ever been in. I'm curious about his life, and I buy the magazines he's featured in. But I NEVER, EVER needed to see him sitting on the toilet suffering with diarrhea. GROSS. Or passing gas. Or getting an enema. Or, for that matter, being weak and whiney. Nothing about his character in this movie is compelling, and it is a waste of his awesome talent. Also, he looks pale in this movie.
Sandra Bullock plays the one imensional, wacky, unconventional sex kitten. The only interesting scenes are the opening ones, some of which reminded me of The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover. One positive thing: the music is good, especially the inclusion of Tom Waits music.
Bottom line: Don't bother.
Deep Cover (1992)
Very good action movie
Laurence Fishburne is completely into his role in this gripping action thriller. Jeff G.'s acting is also without flaw--he does funny/psycho/sinister well.
Yes, the movie is violent, sometimes gratuitously so. But it is paced well, the dialog, acting, and storyline are all believable. I rented it, watched it, thought about it all night, and watched it again the next night. Of course, since The Matrix, my husband and I are both huge fans of Fishburne.
The only lull comes with the wooden performance by Victoria Dillard who, for some reason, feels the need to speak like a robot. But her part is small and does little to affect the movie overall.
If you like action movies that also make you think, then you'll like this movie.
