Corky Romano (2001)
C'mon guys, it wasn't THAT bad...
It was just perfect for a group of my 13 year old son and his friends. Granted, it wasn't cinematic genius, but compared to some of the movies I've had to sit through with them, this was at least cute and somewhat clever.
We Married Margo (2000)
Cute
This was a clever, cute movie; I happened upon it on IFC while clicking through the channels. The presentation is fresh, these guys definitely don't take themselves or their predicaments seriously. I even laughed out loud a couple of times, which almost never happens at movies nowadays. I would definitely recommend scoping it out.
Traffic (2000)
Sorry, sorry, sorry
Sorry I rented it, sorry I wasted 45 minutes watching it as far as I did, sorry for the actors having to deliver such lame dialogue.
I rented this movie after having it recommended to me by a couple of friends who said it was the best thing they'd seen in quite a while. I heard the hype about Benicio Del Toro's performance and figured what the heck, what have I got to lose?
Well, what I lost was some respect for Soderbergh after his delightful Erin Brockvich, 45 minutes of my time (all that I could stand!), and any feelings I had for cinema verite directing. It just didn't work in this case (especially for the Douglas/Irving/daughter/friends story line, terrible dialogue, I couldn't stand to hear another word out of any of them).
Poor dialog, weak story lines (that barely touched), too many times I shook my head with disbelief. The inability to suspend disbelief is death to any movie's entertainment value, in my book. Don't waste your time.
Mission to Mars (2000)
It's not that bad...
We rented this movie as a family for movie night, and I must say it was nice to find one that was appropriate for everyone but not so childish as to be annoying. It's getting harder and harder to find movies we can all watch. The 10 year old loved it, the 12 year old liked it a lot, and the old man and I enjoyed it more than apparently a lot of others here. So perhaps not the best film for those with cultured taste but by no means a waste of a couple hours.
