Casino Royale (2006)
He's back!!
Saw Casino Royale yesterday...twice...with only three hours between showing. Yeah, it's that good. Bond is back and better than ever. Yes, I speak blasphemy, but I thought Craig embodied the idea of Bond better than any of his predecessors. Bond is described as a "beautiful killing machine" and Daniel Craig is all that and a bag of chips! The man got a lot of flack when he got picked to play Bond and I'll be the first to admit he was NOT my first choice, but after seeing this I am a believer! He was a kick ass Bond in the first degree! The movie itself excelled in my expectations, to the point where I think I may sit down and read the book. The cast was perfect. Mads Mikkelson was a great villain and he contrasted Daniel Craig so perfectly that I wish he could be around for more Bond films. The girls were gorgeous and absolutely perfectly cast. There was almost nonstop action. I think the slowest parts of the movie was the poker game but it crackled with tension between Bond & Le Chiffre. All I can say is even if you don't like James Bond, you'll like this because it's a great movie, a great action movie, and nothing like any Bond film that's been done before. I'm so used to Q and the gadgets and whatnot that I had never imagined a Bond film without them. Now I'm glad they're not in this movie. They're too distracting. So go out, watch this movie, have a good time! It's great!
Windtalkers (2002)
A forgotten piece of history portrayed as a forgettable film.
I went to this movie very excited. I thought of what these men did for our country and was thrilled about seeing it as a film. The movie itself was nothing more than a typical action movie. The acting was very good and Adam Beach was terrific but overall, the movie was nothing extraordinary. I think had someone like Spielberg directed it, it could have been the best movie of the year. But John Woo has never made any deep movies and I left disappointed.
61* (2001)
Filmmaking at it's best!
What more can be said about this movie! It is simply fabulous. Thomas Jane and Barry Pepper give outstanding performances. You can't help but get choked up by the end. Billy Crystal is a genius. Roger Maris is finally getting the recognition he deserves. A fine film and I hope they make more baseball movies like this.
The Usual Suspects (1995)
Best Movie of the Year
This is by far the best movie I saw in 95 and one of the best movies I have ever seen. The plot is thick and intricate, pulling the viewer into the web of Keyser Soze, whose identity is known to none. This film is a neo-noir reminiscent of the 1940s crime thrillers. The characters are well drawn and very real. This is by far one of the best mysteries. Every time I watch it, I pull something else out of this movie that I have never seen before, and I have watched this movie about 50 times. ~Alycia
Murder in Mississippi (1990)
Powerful
I really enjoyed it. This is a wonderful movie and I like to watch it before I watch "Mississippi Burning," although I think this is the better of the two movies. I have been reading up on these murders and the only thing I noticed that was off, was that the film created a friction between Mickey & James that never existed.
