Okay, so I have seen the original and therefore am unquestionably biased, but I have read other reviews and I would just like to say that I DON'T think Tim Burton should be shot.
Of COURSE it was hyped up to be more accomodating to Hollywood, and of COURSE Tim Burton wasn't going to simply "Cut & Paste" from the original, so DON'T go see it thinking it's the original with nicer makeup. It's not.
But it's not a load of crap, either!! I don't think the characters were as shallow as has been said, and frankly, I am not embarrassed to admit that General Thade scared the bejeezus outta me. Seriously!
I wasn't expecting this to turn into my favorite movie, so maybe that's why I actually liked it. I only have ONE major gripe, and that is:

Why why why why WHY a Lincoln Memorial scene which I STILL don't understand rather than the epic, dramatic and mindboggling Statue of Liberty scene??????!!!!!! Damn them! Damn them!! Damn them all to HELL!!
