Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Garbage, Absolute garbage
13 June 2001
Warning: Spoilers
How this tripe got an 8.4 rating is beyond me. I love really bad movies, but this film gives "rubbish" a whole new definition. I had no clue who directed it, and I searched the IMDb expecting to see the name Terry Gilliam beside the word Director for this movie.(minor spoiler) The use of Nirvana's "smells like teen spirit" in the opening dance number should have Kurt Cobain rolling over in his grave. Everyone else beside me in the theater got up and left approx. 20 minutes into the movie. This is a film you will definitely see on "Mystery Science Theater 3000". Awful, just awful. There is no plot, no sense, poor editing, and a midget in a wedding dress dancing on a table. I swear this is a Monty Python number in disguise. Avoid this crap.

Vanishing Point (1997 TV Movie)
Sweet Flick
6 February 2001
The scene opens with two bulldozer forming a "V" roadblock on a secluded Idaho highway. Then, from over a hill in the road, we first see a white 1970 Dodge Challenger hurtling down the road pursued by 4 HighWay Patrol cars...This scene give me chills, and is a welcome sight after a 30 year hiatus. As far as TV movies go, this is an OUTSTANDING movie. Viggo Mortensen aptly portrays Kowalski as a deeply concerned husband trying desperately to get home to his ailing wife. The "Bad Guys" are played to the hilt by veterans Steve Railsback and Keith David, who is the epitome of a sneering antagonist. The flaws are few and far between, with the most notable (maybe) being the fact that this movie has commercials in it! But seriously, some of the editing is below par and at one point an Extra almost runs right into Viggo Mortensen. Neither of these affect the viewers pleasure. The cars are still beautiful. The surprise is a 1968 Dodge Charger R/T that closely resembles (and thus gives a nod to) the one from the classic film Bullitt. The 1997 Kowalski's Challenger is identical to the 1971 Kowalski's except that the "new" Challenger is a 426 Hemi as opposed to a 440 Magnum. When it's all said and done , this is a great movie.

One of the Best
31 August 2000
This is quite possibly one of the best car chase films of all time. It is substantially better than the flashy new remake, and is much more entertaining. Toby Halicki is a genius of low budget, independent film making. This film cost around one million to make and was worth every penny spent. Eleanor, a 1973 Mustang Mach 1, steals the show(mainly due to the fact that the last 40 minutes of the film are devoted to her). The are some terrific one-liners uttered by the characters, especially the ones that Maindrian Pace(Halicki) says. If you ever get a chance to see this film, please do. It is a superb way to experience the 70's and to see a great car (and great driver)strut their respective stuff. This is a Super Flick!!!

OK, Pay Attention
21 August 2000
First and foremost: I am not going to rip this film like everyone else on the continent. May I see a show of hands please of those of you who have actually seen the original "Gone in 60..."? 1...2...ok, like Two people. please put your hands down now. If you have(or possibly if you haven't)seen the original film you will understand my point. The first film was on the same level acting-wise as my college drama dept. This remake is just that: a remake. The acting is SUPPOSED to be silly. It is meant to be like the original. Do you think it's easy for Nic Cage or Robert Duval to be Bad Actors?? Me neither. Watching the first film should be a pre-requsite. Even though the chases ARE better in the first film this remake is pretty darn cool and is not as bad as everyone would like it to be... I give it *** out of *****

Speed Zone (1989)
Hey, it's not that bad!
22 February 2000
Granted this is a loser of a flick, but it's not that bad! If you like the first 2 Cannonball Run films, you should like this one. Fans of Smokey and the Bandit 3 will understand this movie: A desperate attempt at earning laughs(and dollars) from a tired, and over-used idea. Smokey 3 is somewhat better than this, as well as Gumball Rally. I recommend both. Anyway, Speed Zone has good action stunts and John Candy. Give it a chance. Hey, it's not that bad!

They tried....
16 February 2000
This is one of the saddest movies I've ever seen! The good folks that made this movie tried hard, but just couldn't quite make this film work. I'm a fan of the first two films and the series, but this one might be the worst. Jerry Reed does a good job at the role he was given, but seem slightly out of place. But it does have one redeeming factor: It is pretty funny. Cars fly off the ground for no reason, and there's no dialogue to speak of.
