Besat (1999)
Well-made Danish horror/thriller
Well-made Danish horror/thriller, it had been doubted (myself included) that we were capable of thrillers of this caliber in little Denmark but "Besat" ("Possessed") proved us all wrong. "Besat" is better than most US productions in the same genre, cast, plot and special effects included. Check out talented director Rønnow-Klarlund's first movie "Den Attende" ("The 18th") as well!
The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974)
Most scary of 'em all...?
Heck, it really is one of the scariest films I've ever seen! Hooper has carefully directed and uses every "trick" he knows and does it remarkably well (i.e. scary!) But actually I didn't find it as scary as Romero's "Night of the Living Dead". But that's of course my own personal opinion, check it out for yourself if you dare!!
The Sixth Sense (1999)
Haley Joel Osment is marvelous!
Malcolm Crowe (Bruce Willis) is a successful child psychologist who's faced with the toughest challenge of his career when assigned to help a young boy, Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment ) who is haunted by unknown demons. The director is the relatively unknown and young M. Night Shyamalan and despite his obvious talents the movie is a bit disappointing as a psychological thriller. The shocks are too far between and even too obvious and the plot, despite of a successful surprise-ending, does not hold up to minute scrutiny. But having said that it is important to emphasize that H. J. Osment is absolutely amazing as the haunted boy and stands out as one of the best child performances for a very long time. Bruce Willis is excellent as well, his performance is very quiet, almost modest, and it suits him very well. But the outstanding performance of the film is without a doubt the breakthrough of the young Osment and personally I can't wait to see what the future brings for him. It's more than likely that "The Sixth Sense" will be remembered as the real beginning of an exceptional career.
