Snow Cake (2006)
love the snow-cake
I saw this at the opening of the Berlinale, and I liked it a lot.
Simple story, solid acting, lovable characters. there are moments to make u cry and laugh. The audience and the German Press generally receive it very well. Weaver's and Rickmann's acting deserves Oscar nominations. Rickmann should not just be remembered for Professor Snape in Harry Potter.... He is just very charming in this film. very convincing.
and I do love the snowcake at the end of the movie.... a simple cinematic surprise which works.
More films to be seen in Berlinale. let's see if Rickmann and Wwaver will go home with bears.... :)
Brokeback Mountain (2005)
I am so proud of Ang Lee
I am a Taiwanese living in Berlin. I just saw a special screening here in Germany and cried soooo hard at the end of the movie. I am so proud since the director is from Taiwan as well.
Homosexuality is not really a big deal here in Europe. But it is a big deal in the USA. I admire Lee's courage for doing this movie. Honestly, how can gender be a matter when it comes to true love? It is hard to find true love, when we find it, we should be celebrating with even more love. We are lucky enough to live in this modern world. What happened to the two cowboys in the film is just a heartbreaking reminder, telling us how valuable true love is. And how Lee masters the accumulation of emotions is just amazing. Excellent acting. Let's all love. Stop spreading messages of hate. We love and we cry. We all have a brokeback mountain inside of us. Thank you, Ang Lee.
17 sui de tian kong (2004)
a Wonderful Taiwanese gay movie
As a Taiwanese, I am very proud of this production. I saw it when I was in Taiwan and loved it. A very funny comedy of a gay utopia in Taipei. No women can be seen in this movie. No aids. No difficulties of coming out. No one dying. Just a gay comedy. Makes everyone happy. I just got the DVD. watched it with my German friends and we all loved it. Sweet and loving. The two leading actors are actually straight. But they did a wonderful job.
Being gay and 17 can be a fabulous thing. And this movie is a great happy statement saying, "I am fag and fabulous!"
Cowboys and Angels (2000)
Adam Trese Shines
This is a movie surrounding Adam Trese. Seeing this movie predicts a coming shining star. Trese not only looks nice but also acts well. With time and nice opportunities, he will be something. A nice movie to watch. A nice romance comedy to relax.
Dazzle (1999)
nicely done
ok, I must admit that I have been only admiring the beauty of Maxwell Caulfield in this movie. he is just damn cute. but again, this is also a good movie for the whole family to watch. easy to understand. this kind of disney-like movie is never a bad choice when you are just looking for fun time in viewing. rent the tape and watch it.
You're the one (una historia de entonces) (2000)
Berlin Premiere
I saw this film in the Berlin film festival world premiere. I was deeply touched by the beauty of the Cinematography. The story can be really melodramatic, but because of the Cinematography and the fine performance of the actors, this film is for sure a breathtaking film.
What Women Want (2000)
Marisa Tomei
This film is all about Mel G, but those who truly shine in it are the actresses. Helen Hunt, it goes without saying, is undoubtedly great. And Marisa Tomei, with the wide range of emotions, amazes me with her beauty and acting. And of course, the Divine Miss M, Bette Midler, the main reason why I went to see the film, is charming as she always is.
Wo hu cang long (2000)
Ang Lee, the birth of a great director
As a Taiwanese, I am so proud of Ang Lee. He did so many innovations for the Wu-Xia Movie Genre which has been very important for several generations in Taiwan, China, and HK. The beauty of the movement goes in unison with the fine story. However, a viewer has to be a Chinese speaker to be able to understand the poor accent the actors have. But accent comes not so important when the production value of the whole film reaches a certain high level. It has been a sensation all over Asian, and I hope the western viewers can grasp the breathtaking beauty of the film.
The Other Sister (1999)
Extra Credits for the actors
A very warm story. The acting of Ribisi and Lewis certainly moves people to cry with laughter. The difficulty of dealing with issues about Mentally Retarded-Developmentally people is overcome by the great script and the wonderful cast. And the subplot of homosexuality, sisterhood, and family bonding intertwines greatly with the lovely story of Carla and Daniel. Well done.
Pleasantville (1998)
Hail to Joan Allen
Of all the actors in this interesting film, Joan Allen certainly is the most impressive one. Her deep emotions being trapped in the world of black and white totally turn around in a very subtle way. And this subtle star quality certainly makes Joan Allen a great actress specializing in difficult roles like a lonely housewife trapped in the routines of life. I was deeply moved by her convincing acting in this film.
The Accidental Tourist (1988)
The Power of Tranquility
To some viewers, this movie may seem lethargic due to the fact that the director made the tone of it low-key and calm. But this is the very power of this movie. William Hurt, the oscar-winning actor, once again shows the world that he is indeed a solid actor with great charisma of catching the viewer's eyes. The role's agony of losing his only son is fully expressed through his great acting. That kind of inner pain which can not be said through obvious emotion is the biggest challenge of all for actors.
And Geena Davis Certainly outshined Turner in this film. Her charm as an actress certainly moved me. Highly recommend this movie. It will move you to tears in a tacid and tranquilized way.
