Unbreakable (2000)
Great story wonderful ideas
I recently watched the DVD version of this movie and thought it was great. I was leary at first because the trailers turned me away from this movie. I loved the superheros in everyday life idea, it reminds you of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, when the characters start flying more and more which makes you elevate your view of them to supernatural despite your idea of who the character is. The DVD version includes a short "behind the scenes" featurette which points out a lot of the use of color and other aspects. The only thing that ruined this movie experience for me was the superimposed text at the ending; ignoring this text(which wasn't in the prerelease screening) would have made the story twice as good.
Nightmare Ned (1997)
Dropped to soon
I remember this series from when I was in highschool. It was an animated series shown on ABC as part of their Saturday morning cartoon lineup. As I remember there were very few episodes and it may have been dropped mid-season. The show dealt with the title character "Ned" conquering his nightmares. Each episode would start out by setting up for the nightmare during the day time; Ned would become worried or frightened by something. Then once Ned had fallen asleep is was sent into his nightmare world where he would then have to conquer whatever evil force was bothering him. My favorite part of the show was the nightmare worlds. They were very surreal and well created. I don't think this show was very popular among the target audience because it was so dark and Ned was always in dire straits. This is definitely a cartoon that is more likely to be enjoyed by adults.
