Two Hands (1999)

Two Hands - 2 thumbs up
26 October 1999
There is a beautiful irony about a hard nut gangster who's hobbies include playing scrabble and chess, not to mention making origami creatures with his son. And here in lies one of many delightful twists in this gritty Aussie comedy-drama. Heath Ledger plays a naive yet overly keen to impress young hood who stuffs up his first job for Pando (Bryan Brown). What follows is mishap followed by comical and violent mishap. Director/writer Gregor Jordan has tried a sort of Pulp Fiction inter-twining of stories here and I think he's hit the mark...Sometimes shocking, sometimes funny but always entertaining. David Field plays "Acko" a bad dude who's obsessed with his car. This in itself provides for some very funny scenes.

Do yourself a favour - and check out this little nugget of an Aussie film. Two Hands gets my two thumbs up.

His and Hers (1997)
Half decent script - destroyed in every way
10 October 1999
The script must have had potential at some stage, why else would a studio touch this poor excuse for a film. At the start I really thought this film was going somewhere, but the actors soon put a stop to that. Some very bad editing and poor camera work nicely topped off with a cast who really don't want to be there.

One scene during a kidnapping, the "F" word in various forms is used every 2 seconds. A drastic attempt at a bit of Tarintino style film making that misses the mark badly...

Give it a miss, don't waste 90 minutes of your time like I did.
