A semi-interesting plot line (a test pilot from 1960 finds himself landing on Earth in 2024, where mutants rule the upper world and a small group of survivors hides out below the Earth) is one of the only good things this movie has going for it. Some of the sets are also interesting, and have a somewhat futuristic feel to them, but sadly the performances by most of the cast (especially the leading actor) are sadly wanting.

Darlene Tompkins provides some nice eye candy as the daughter of the leader of the underground base, but not enough to make the movie worth watching more than once.

Considering how talky this movie was a better script would have helped a lot.

This is the type of movie that only a serious Science Fiction buff who wants to see everything should bother with.

Truly Tasteless Humor
9 March 2000
If you are familiar with the work of director Frank Henenlotter (Frankenhooker, and the Basket Case series) then you have a good idea what to expect with this hilarious film.

Alymer is a parasite that injects his host with his "Juice", which gives the host an incredible color filled high. Unfortunately for the host, Alymer must eat brains to stay alive.

I know that this does not sound like a fun movie, but if you have a warped sense of humor, you will be sure to enjoy it.

Worth a watch
19 February 2000
A shell shocked Vietnam Vet (played by Jeff Fahey) is driven over the brink by his greedy wife (Karen Allen) and her boyfriend.

Although the idea of this film is pretty interesting, and the cast is pretty good, unfortunately the script is not good enough to really make the story work. This makes the movie kind of predictable. Karen Allen chews up the scenery, and steams up the screen in a few nude scenes, as the greedy young wife born on the wrong side of the tracks in a small town.

Overall this movie is worth a watch, especially if you are a Karen Allen fan, but not nearly as great as it could be.

A great "Charlie's Angels" adult spoof
12 January 2000
This adult spoof of "Charlie's Angels" arrived when the popularity of the TV series was in full swing, and it gave viewers a chance to see their favorite female detectives doing the kind of things that they had always fantasied about.

Although there is a certain amount of bondage in this film, it does not get "too rough" or out of hand. Jamie Gillis is the kinky pervert who is kidnapping young women and selling them into white slavery, and John Leslie is totally fun as one of Jamie's henchmen. The cast is good looking, and the sex is hot, especially the scenes with Leslie Bovee who is in top form in this film.

American Pie (1999)

A pretty good teen sex comedy
7 January 2000
American Pie is a pretty good coming of age teen sex comedy, but despite the fact that there was plenty of tasteless humor, it was still a very predictable done-before, and Done better, kind of movie.

It is hard to believe that even with all of the masturbation and sex jokes that the movie got a "18 years old" requirement for it's unrated video release.

After four High school guys get together and make a pact to help each other to lose their virginity, we get to watch and have a fair amount of laughs at their ongoing attempts, which of course culminate at Prom Night.

Pretty fun, with decent performances by the young cast, although it is Shannon Elizabeth really stands out as a very sexy young performer.

an average horror film
20 November 1999
A scientist and an ex-FBI man are both hunting for a strange creature that lives underground and feeds on the bodies of the dead. This strange monster has the ability to heal deadly wounds, but the ex-FBI agent (played with wild menace by the great Brion James) is determined to kill it because it killed his partner. Be sure to look for an early career appearance by Neve Campbell as a young Deputy.

Because of the average script, combined with a decent cast, this movie manages to somewhat overcome the fact that the monster looks like an extra from a 1950's horror movie. Worth a watch, but not a whole lot more.

Wheels of Terror (1990 TV Movie)

Strangely perverse
20 November 1999
This movie has a storyline that is strangely perverse for a made for TV movie. It is about a stranger in a black car who roams a small desert town, kidnapping, raping and finally killing a series of young schoolgirls.

Joanna Cassidy brings her young daughter to a small desert town to get away from the violence of the big city. But shortly after she arrives to take a job as a bus driver for the local school, a stranger in a black Dodge Charger begins to kidnap, rape and eventually begins to kill a number of the young schoolgirls.

Poorly directed, poorly paced and with far too many slow motion shots for the kind of movie that it is. This movie is a good example of the kind of movie that should not be done to TV because of the limitations of the medium. An unrated film of this nature could have gone far enough with the type of storyline, and that would make for a flat out NASTY horror film!

A fun satire
20 November 1999
Although friends of mine had been telling me to watch this for a long time, I never got around to it, but I am glad that I finally did. Despite the obvious limitations of the budget (this mini-series was made for the BBC TV network in 1981) it is the hilarious and inventive story that will keep you laughing for hours.

Earthling Arthur Dent is rescued from the destruction of Earth by his friend Ford Prefect (who is of course an alien). As the two of them journey around the galaxy a great many interesting facts are told to us by the voice of "The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy."

The performances are dead on for the kind of dry British humor that makes this satire so good.

Modern Vampires (1998 TV Movie)

A funny horror movie
19 November 1999
In this film, Director Richard Elfman brings us a Los Angeles that is home to an unseen group of Vampires who roam the night feeding on anyone they wish, and having a wild time doing it. Filled with lots of intentional humor, this movie does not shy away from giving viewers some very bloody "feeding" scenes, and enough sex and nudity for 2 movies!!!!!!!!

Natasha Gregson Wagner is terrific as a very sexy young vampire who is being hunted down by the rest of the group for preying on the humans and then leaving the bodies behind to be discovered by the police. Casper Van Dien is the sexy male vampire who turned her 20 years ago and now returns to find that he is in love with her. Rod Steiger is Doctor Van Helsing, who is still hunting the vampires, now with the help of a group of inner city gang members.

If you are looking for a serious horror film, STAY AWAY! But if you are looking for a sexy, fun filled vampire romp, with plenty of horror, then be sure to pick this one up!

A watered down remake
19 November 1999
In the mid 90's producer Roger Corman did a series of re-makes of his previous movies for the Showtime cable network. Corman is a great low budget producer, but it does not really show here. They have cut back on all of the extreme gore and sex that made the first one a drive-in classic.

All in all, worth a watch for only a true horror, or Roger Corman, fan.

The Stand (1994)

An Outstanding Mini-Series
19 November 1999
So often the adaption of Stephen King's books are bad, or sometimes terrible. So it is even more pleasing to find out that my all time favorite King novel has been turned into a mini-series worthy of the book.

The cast is terrific, Gary Sinise is very likeable as Stu Redman, and Jamey Sheridan is evil personified as Randall Flagg (after you see his performance in this movie, you will never look at him the same again in any other performance). Likewise, Rob Lowe puts in a great performance as Nick Andros. Stephen King (who also shows up in a small part in the movie) has written the teleplay, and adapted it very well from his own book, showing that he can work well within the limitations of the television medium.

Even at 6 plus hours in running time a number of things had to be trimmed from the book, and even though I do not agree with all of the changes, they still work very well when you are viewing the movie. All is all, Stephen King's "The Stand" is probably the best adaption of a King novel that I have seen to date, and also one of the best TV mini-series that I have seen in years. Director Mick Garris proves that yes indeed you can make a great horror film and do it on TV.

Not One For The Kids!!!
19 November 1999
In 1980 Roger Corman produced this surprisingly good B-movie. Genetically altered fish have gotten loose and into the ocean near a small coastal fishing village. These fish have now turned into monsters and are busy attacking the fishermen (to protect their territory) and raping the women (to advance their own species). Filled with lots of gore, violence, nudity and sex this is definetly a good example of the kind of over the top sex/horror movie that could still get an R rating back in 1980. If you love sleazy sex/horror films, with plenty of intentional laughs, pick this one up.

A prime example of a movie so bad that it is good!
17 November 1999
If you enjoy truly tasteless comedy, then kick back and enjoy this treat.

Poor Melvin is a janitor at the local Health Club, until a practical joke ends with him falling into a barrel of toxic waste and turning into the Toxic Avenger! Then it is time for the bad guys to watch out. "Toxie" has a need to go out and stop bad guys, and boy does he! Limbs fly, and blood spurts! The unrated version is truly over the top. Filled with sex, nudity, gore and a ton of laughs!

A bad movie
3 November 1999
Although I like 1950's sci-fi monster movies, this movie is as barren as the Texas landscape where it is set. A bunch of Texas teens have a run in with the Giant Gila monster (who tends to wander aimlessly during his scenes, seemingly as bored as the viewers), and you find yourself wishing that the director would do something to get the movie moving. In the end it is a pitiful movie that was most likely done as a vehicle for the main star, who wanted to be a singer.
