Paranoia runs deep when Mary Beth McDonough gets her purse stolen.
4 October 1999
A young woman ("Waltons" alumni McDonough) has just had her purse stolen, along with her house keys, and film opens with her madcap endeavors to break into her own home without them. Is it her overactive imagination, or is someone lurking in her yard, waiting to pounce? She calls her non-plussed ex, who reluctantly shows up to protect the terrified gal, and an evening of charming and witty, dual soul-bearing ensues. Nice sex scene to boot. I guess fear really is a great aphrodisiac.

It's the 4th Of July, 1948, and the Wisdom clan gathers beneath the shadow of an unpleasant revelation.
4 October 1999
A beautiful, quiet little film that painstakingly chronicles the disintegration of a family and their secrets over the course of a 4th of July weekend, 1948. Director Shanklin treads Faulkner/Williams territory with a deft hand, in this ulcerating American Gothic. Watch for a veeeery young Sean Penn as one of the cousins.
