Runaway Train (1985)
A thought-provoking film with beautiful nature pictures
This is one of my all-time favorites. All the characters are well fleshed-out, and the story is suspenseful, with a nice message. One advice, though. Don't watch this movie unless you're wrapped up in blankets and drinking a cup of hot chocolate. Things can get very cold...
Mission to Mars (2000)
Not messy, just painfully stretched out
OK, so I read most of the reviews before I saw the movie, and I almost decided I would not see it, but then I got a free ticket and after all it IS an SF flick, so I changed my mind. I can't say I'm happy I did.
This movie suffers from two major problems: really bad score and a really stretched-out pace. They could have told the same story in half an hour shorter time.
The acting wasn't as bad as some people here say, but it could have been a lot better. There were a few clichés and plot holes, too, but not blatantly obvious ones - quite the average of what you could expect from an SF movie. That doesn't mean I'm prepared to file this film in the "so-so" folder instead of "c**p", I'm just pointing out that the plot holes are not the major problems here.
The CGI alien was rather cute, if they had made it more lifelike it would probably just have looked either stupid or like an X-files rip-off. The explanation as to how life on earth began wasn't very original or believable, but it was well executed and fun to watch.
Vi hade iallafall tur med vädret ... (1980)
Daddy, daddy! There's tadpoles here!
I have seen this movie about ten times and know almost all lines by heart. This is just the perfect comedy. Every detail is well thought out, the pacing is fast and fun, the characters show quite a bit of depth and the music is wonderful. Sometimes you can see things occurring in the background like in the Naked Gun movies, but unlike those, this movie is more true to life; except for a few things (grandpa's sand bucket, for instance) it shows things that could really happen, thus you can identify with the characters in the various situations they get into. 10/10
The Frighteners (1996)
To hell with garden leprechauns!
At last, we get to see Michael J Fox in a good movie, playing his role perfectly. I'm not particularly fond of ghost movies, they often turn out to be nothing but silly crap, but this one held me nailed to my chair the whole time while at the same time being very humorous. I can't wait until I get to see it again!
Hela härligheten (1998)
High hopes for a movie that only left me depressed
I had high hopes for this movie, since I have always liked Tomas von Brömssen. I was not really disappointed, but the mood through the entire movie was very gloomy and depressing. I'm currently studying to become a teacher, like Torsten, and... well, I guess I had hoped the character would be someone to look up to. But the movie was dirty, depressing and didn't give me anything. My rating was 5.
