The Stepford Wives (2004)
Good Fun
I really enjoyed this movie. I will just make a few comments.
I would be interested in seeing the director's cut of the movie because it's obvious that a lot of stuff was cut. That being said it was an entertaining, slight dark comedy with good performances.
Nicole Kidman does a good job as the lead Joanna Eberhard, although her American accent is a little off at times (She was born in American but grew up in Australia). I get the feeling that much of John Lovitz's part was left on the cutting room floor. I would have liked to see more of him. Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler, and Roger Bart all are good in their parts, especially the latter tow, but it's Glenn Close that steals the show. She is simply marvelous and utterly convincing in her role.
The only true disappointment of the movie was Christopher Walken. He phoned in his performance and come off very mechanical. But if this was his intent then it's a brilliant move.
I'm off to rent the original and then read the book. We'll see if my view on this move changes any way.
Grade: B+
The Iceman Ducketh (1964)
Poor continuity of character
(Warning some spoilers)
I did not like "The Iceman Ducketh". In this cartoon Daffy is far too bitter and it is totally out of character. It is true that Daffy has always been jealous of Bugs, but the duck always kept his spirit. Is this short, instead of being crazy with jealousy, he is embittered and not likeable. Sure Daffy wanted to get rid of Bugs but he never wanted to KILL him. In the earlier hunting trilogy, it's true that he wanted Elmer Fudd to shoot Bugs, but you get the feeling he wasn't trying to finish him off, just trying to get Elmer to go away. He knew that Bugs could take care of Elmer better than he could. This probably marks the beginning of the bitter Daffy Duck we saw later in the Speedy Gonzales series. I cannot connect with Daffy in any way in this film. Where was Chuck Jones when we needed him?
Show Biz Bugs (1957)
Classic
Although Bugs plays the title role, Daffy is the real star of this show and gets the most screen time. Bugs fans, of course are happy because once again Bugs outsmarts Daffy. But Daffy fans will enjoy the true genius of the Duck. Bugs may have more charisma but Daffy has more heart. Daffy is more like a human being, flawed yet lovable while Bugs seems to be too much of an ideal character.
Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)
Pretty Good
I gave the movie a B+. I really enjoyed it. DDG's is a dark comedy. It wasn't exactly what I was expecting, I admit. I had expected it to be a comedy like "Something About Mary". However, it was a revealing documentary format film with a edge. The film is slightly disturbing, I found myself cringing sometimes. I do not recommend you take young children to see this film. Overall DDG is a good movie, I'll buy the video. If you're expecting "American Pie" however, you may be disappointed. If you like dark humor you'll love it.
Muppet Babies (1984)
Excellence
One of the best cartoons ever! I give it an A+! The show deals with mainly 8 muppet solving everyday problems by using their imaginations. Themes such as friendship, sharing, kindness, creativity, and self-esteem are reinforced in every episode. It has lovable characters such as: leader Kermit, volatile Piggy, kindhearted Fozzie and just plain weird Gonzo.
