I know the comics of Ralf Koenig and I find them very amusing. Reading that Koenig himself wrote the script made me sure that I'll have a good time at the cinema. And I had! The gay character Sigi (Sven Walser) just jumped out of the comics! He looked like one of the main characters of Koenig's Comics "Super Paradise" and "Jago". A very good choice - and it made the movie even more funnier. Of course the movie is full of clichés (and of realities of course!) about the heterosexual and gay world and some gags aren't the crispiest anymore buuuut... it's light-hearted. Especially the end is rather nice - the main characters turn up in one of those "Talk-Shows" about sex and the whole scene shows so perfectly how stupid TV can be! And there's a nice twist at the end... good development. Compliments to Andreja Schneider - she plays that hot and wild opera-singer Kriemhild Nastrowa with such a gusto! Her portrayal is pure joy! Her very foreign accent and her beautiful dark eyes are great! Of course not a movie which will win any great prizes but the movie managed what other "big comedies" didn't... it amused me and I had a good laugh! Beside recommending this film I have to recommend all the comics of Ralf Koenig too! His sense of humour is priceless!

This movie gives us another glimpse of the feudal life of the french King Louis XIV. "Le Roi Danse" shows us his obsession with dancing and how important music and dance was to him. But the main story is about Jean-Baptiste Lully which is the main composer and the dance instructor for Louis. Lully falls in love with his king but this love is never returned by the emperor. Benoit Magimel makes a very strong performance as King Louis - there are incredible moments when he dances or just stare at Lully. Tcheky Karyo plays Moliére - the poet and a friend of Lully. The relationship between Moliére and Lully reminds me on the situation we had with Mozart and Salieri in "Amadeus"... Strong rivalry between the characters. Karyo is very convincing in his portrayal of the poet. The interieurs, the costumes and even the music are overwhelming. The movie is a pure feast for the eyes and ears. The only minus point - as far as I can see it - is that the director expects a certain knowledge about the french history from the viewer. Some characters and situations aren't explained 'cause Corbiau seems to think everybody knows about Cardinal Mazarin and so on. Sometimes the story-telling jumps and makes a following a little bit complicating. But in general it's a movie well worth seeing!

A typical summer movie. The plot is as thin as a piece of "After Eight" but that is a problem of many other movies too. The main characters (an indian and a westerner) talk in a broad bavarian accent which I think makes the whole movie such a success. Bully Herbig plays the characters of Winnetouch/Abahachi with gusto. Especially his performance as gay Winnetouch is hilarious. The movie has its ups and downs but makes it to entertain until the end. Sky duMont as the baddie is another highlight. His looks and voice help to underline the character of Santa Maria perfectly. If you grew up with the "Winnetou and Old Shatterhand"-movies (Pierre Brice and Lex Barker) from the 60's you'll certainly have your good time at the cinema. And watch out for Irshad Panjatan as the leader of the tribe of Shoshone-indians - his performance and looks are always a good laugh! Don't expect a good movie but if you want to stay away from the heat outside - go and receive a cool breeze of some nice jokes!
