The Hunt for Red October (1990)
*yawn*
Sure this movie had the best cast money can buy but it is awefully dull. I have read reviews that this movie had "gripping suspense and tense action." Where is this suspense and action. This movie is slow, long, and talky. The Russian soilders did not even have a Russian accent. This was one of Sean Connery's worst roles he has starred in. Despite all this I reccommend this movie anyway. I reccomend this to all people who suffer from insomnia. However if you want to see excited submarine movies try "Crimson Tide" or "U-571"!
Krakatoa: East of Java (1968)
Not a bad film, but it's a bit slow and talky!
Krackatoa, East of Java is a fictional story set against the backdrop of the infamous eruption of Krackatoa in 1883 that triggered huge Tsunamis. This movie involves a ship captain and his crew on a voyage to a ship wreck site close to the shores of Krackatoa where the 200 year dormant Volcano begins waking up in search of treasure. This movie does have excitement but you have to wait through awhile to get the excitement. Most of the action is on the ship. Although intrigueing things happen on the way, like dead fish in the water and unexplained explosions, the action is still too slow. However the special effects were good for a movie this old (1969). I thought the eruption and Tidal wave sequences were well done. 6/10
Fatherland (1994)
A Suspenceful "What if" Thriller!
The scenario in "Fatherland" is what would have happened if Germany had won WWII. Much of Europe will still be under Nazi rule and the Russians and Germans kept fighting. Our two main charecters is a divorced father who spends time with his son and is also an SS officer. The other one is a female American Journalist assigned to cover the peace summit with Adolph Hitler and US president Kennedy. This events also coincides with what would have been Hitler's 75th birthday. Together they gradually uncover an aweful crime committed durring the war and the gestapo is resorting to any means neccesery to keep it quiet. Mant High ranking Nazi officials end up dead. I found this to be an enjoyable movie. It's more of a thriller than a Drama! You almost think that did really happen. 9/10
War and Remembrance (1988)
Although quite tedious at times this still is a very good story!
War and Remembrance is a 12 part mini-series based on Herman Waulk's novel. This movie tells the story of the second world war and it's horror like no other film. This film has boldly went where no other film has gone before. This movie contains alot of characters and sub-plots. This film can get quite boring at times. There is alot of "talky scenes" and romance scenes. As I watched this movie I felt like I was experencing this horror with the charectors. I was really moved when one sub-plot involved an American Jewish female and her Uncle are trapped in Europe by the Nazis and thier freedom and thier lives are at stake. The Holocaust is depicted in great detail in this movie and the holocaust scenes are graphic and disturbing images that will remain inside you forever. You wonder how could people mercilessly slaughter other people like that. It is a very good series. This movie is extremely lengthy so plan on several nights to watch it. The best way to watch it is to pace your self and watch about 2 hours a night.
Kids (1995)
Disturbing Film, no need to watch more than once.
Recently I rented "Kids". The film starts out as a boy and a girl kissing. The the boy (Telly) wants to have sex with the girl. The girl tries to reists Telly's advancements but since He is such a sweet talker he talks them into it. Telly thinks the safe way to have sex is to do it with virgins. When Telly persuades his virgins into intercourse its "Slam Bam Bam thank you ma'am I'm done". He goes out to to brag to his loser Friend (Casper) about his achievement. Although I did like the film I cannot recommend this to anyone. Anyone under 18 should not view this film. These kids are no Angels. They fight, steal, gang bang, and get stoned. Parents who watch this film with their children are urged to have a talk with thier kids about the consequences these kids face for thier actions
Asteroid (1997)
Bad Bad Bad
Every big disaster movie released on the big screen always bring wanna be made-for- tv movies. This Movie is not even close to "Deep Impact" or "Armageddon" which both were very good films. Well some woman looking in a telescope discovers a big astroid that seems to be coming to the earth. It Hits right in Kansas city. I found myself rooting for the astroids.
