The Cave (2005)
Not bad
I saw a free screening of this film tonight. The Cave is a pretty average monster flick. The cast has some recognizable faces and does an okay job with a script that's full of "yeah right" type occurrences. The story is quite simple, some cave explorers have high hopes for a large cave which is said to be like the Amazon River of caves. While the caves look impressive, these explorers get much more than they bargained for when they discover they're not the only ones moving around underneath the earth's surface. The story is quite predictable yet some parts could have actually been developed more to make this film a little bit better. Anyone who enjoys movies like The Relic and Mimic will probably enjoy this film as well.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
The first fun summer popcorn movie
This movie is exactly what the trailer promises: A fun summer popcorn movie. Sit back, relax, entertainment has returned to the multiplex. Not since Twister has there been an action disaster film filled with this much fun. So the global warming issue may be on the exaggerated level, don't let the right-wing fools talk you into avoiding this rollercoaster ride! If I were to have one complaint it would be that the film is too short and did not show enough actual disaster footage. The filmmakers could have shown a far more indepth look at what a major pain in the butt evacuating half of the country would be like but they didn't. It was more of a footnote than a subplot. The first attack of bad weather in Tokyo is very cool. First time I can remember seeing hail used in a disaster film.
Hotlines (2003)
Sexy Fear Factor
Gorgeous women in bikinis in high definition on HDNet. These women swim with sharks in a show that's like a mild version of Fear Factor. Not much more I can say except that no man in his right mind wouldn't enjoy this show. Beautiful women, beautiful locations. Pure entertainment!
Square Pegs (1982)
Horrendous
Saw a couple episodes of this show on HDNet. Unfortunately the increased picture quality is the only good thing going for it. Unless you just have to see Sarah Jessica Parker as a high school nerd, avoid this and rent the Saved By The Bell DVDs instead. This show is nowhere near as good as the movie Fast Times At Ridgemont High which is a far more entertaining look at high school in the early 80's.
Anatomie (2000)
The best German movie I've ever seen
Anatomie is one of the most entertaining horror films I've ever had the pleasure of seeing. There is a bit of originality to this flick that I have not previously seen in U.S. horror flicks. Franka Potente is a wonderful actress who lights up the screen in every movie she's in. I cannot say enough nice things about what her presence means to this movie in particular. Do yourself a favor and pick up the DVD at once!
Joan of Arc (1999)
Seriously under-appreciated piece of movie going heaven!
What can I say, many have criticized this film and I believe they've done so unjustly. This gem is easily one of the best movies of 1999. The drama is intense and the story is incredible. To think a teenage girl could persuade her government to do anything is unimaginable much less to convince the leaders to go to war! Do yourself a favor and pick up the Region 2 French DVD release of this film and enjoy this near masterpiece in all its DTS glory!
The X Files: Pilot (1993)
Simply put - The best show ever!
This show is absolutely incredible. Stunning imagery and creative imaginations by Chris Carter and crew help to make this the most interesting show on television. It's a pleasure to own each of the episodes from all seven seasons on videotape. The best news of all is that season one is coming to DVD in 2000. A gem like this deserves the best home video format around! Duchovny and Anderson are easily the most gifted actors on television today.
