The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants (2005)
Brilliant - Perfect - Funny - Touching - Emotional
Surprisingly, I throughly loved this movie. It was not at all what I expected. Not your typical teen movie. There is something for everyone in this film. The acting of the young ladies is beyond brilliant. The film writing was fantastic. It was funny, touching, emotional and a well rounded film. I can only imagine how great the book is.
What I loved most about the film was the different direction it takes with each of girls. The joys, the pains, the struggles, the strength. Lessons for each of us to learn.
10 stars out of 10 - it's beyond perfect. I highly recommend this movie to everyone. It is sure to delight everyone in the family.
War of the Worlds (2005)
No Climax, Bad Acting from Cruise - Dakota only shinning spot.
Honestly, I'm not sure what people are raving about this movie for. It was simply a huge let down with no climax and horrific acting from Cruise. It had lots of unnecessary propaganda (Pro Church of Sciencetology AND Pro G.W. Bush references) that was so obviously - it became quickly a groaner at times. The special effect were good, but not enough to carry the film. As is typical with so many films today - it felt like the set up for a sequel. The movie itself can not stand on it's own. Though, Dakota Fanning did an incredible acting job. Far more sophisticated then her years. Almost like watching a young Drew Barrymore - but even better. It's a rental - maybe not even that.
Freddy vs. Jason (2003)
Laughable & Forgetable
Probably goes down as one of the worst movies in my mind. Unless you're a 12 year old boy who wants to see gratitious nudity. I found the audience and myself LAUGHING completely through out the movie. At one point I had to ask my friend: "Is this suppose to be a parody?" The writing was horrible, the acting was worst, and with ever line spoken was the obligatory statements that is usually found in a cartoon making fun of horror films, such as The Simpsons. "...You know you haven't been with another guy since you were 14... You need to forget him..." or "Ever since Mom died...." or the escaped mental instution patients turn out to be right. It was just a horrible, horrible movie. Not in the tradition of the orginal Jason & Freddy movies. Somethings need to just die and be forgotten. Namely, this movie.
The Wonderful World of Disney: The Growing Pains Movie (2000)
My eyes, my eyes they're BURNING! Why oh why did they makes this!?
Oh it was so painful to watch this. No real plot, the children can't act as adults and everyone looked like they didn't want to be in this "movie". This was something that ABC did NOT need to make. Painful, so painful...I kept expecting it to get better and all it did was get worst. As I stated in my Summary. My eyes, my eyes, my eyes are burning! The pain, the pain. Not worth watching...worth passing on.
Atlantis: The Lost Empire (2001)
I want a tatoo like that!
Wow! What a great fantasy on one of the oldest stories of known
history. Fun, creepy, educational and aweing. Some scenes
caused me to leave my mouth dropped to the floor. I could have
used less of the supporting characters, which in a short movie
they did not have enough time to give them justice. They had far
too much content alone with the story line then having to shove in
sub-plots of small supporting characters. A great movie for kids,
adults and families. Absolutely, not to be missed.
And... I want a tatoo like that! :-)
Shrek (2001)
I've never laughed my butt off so much!
Fantastic STORY line, great for kids to learn about self image, and
self acceptance. And I LOVED all the disney spoofs! Worth seeing
at least twice. There is so much detail in this movie it will be easy
to miss all the subtlities. Eddie Murphy's roll steals the show and
keeps the movie rolling along fast. Before you know it - boom - it's
over.
Desert Bloom (1986)
Haunting, disturbing and powerful.
Though some would beg to differ, Desert Bloom is one of the most powerful movies and stories of our time. It's a tale of a dysfunctional family in the 1950's when it was uncommon for the public to see the truth behind closed doors. An amazing script and creative camera angles and lighting makes this movie worth seeing a few times before you can fully understand it's beauty.
Annabeth Gish in her breakout/breakthrough roll deserved a supporting actress nomination. Unfortunately, in 1986 it was uncommon for a young actor to receive such a nomination. Ms. Gish is an under rated actress who is worthy of powerful rolls and casting in present day.
The chemistry between Ellen Barkin and Annabeth Gish's is amazing as well as JoBeth William's portrayal of a truth-blind housewife. Jon Voight, is well -- Jon Voight -- consistant and erie.
Hannibal (2001)
Poetic, Powerful, Disturbing
One of the most powerful movies I've seen all year. Though Silence of the Lambs is amazing - Hannibal adds aspects that just could not be possible 10 years ago. Sir Anthony Hopkins scared me more this time as Hannibal, then 10 years ago. You could feel his wrath just waiting to be released and when it is - hold your stomach, but keep your eyes open.
Ms. Moore - I found her to be much more true to the character then Jodie Foster. I hope she gets the nomination that she will deserve for her performance in this movie. Truly one of the most versatile actresses of our time, she added a toughness that Jodie lacked.
As disturbing as the movie was, there was a poetic beauty to the movie that I was not expecting.
Cleopatra 2525 (2000)
Why would one be addicted to watching this?
Something about a future Charlie's Angels with a kick makes this show hopelessly fun and addicting. Though Jennifer Sky is POINTLESSLY annoying as her character. Victoria Pratt and he other co-star make it worth watching. In order to make this show better it should be increased to an hour, remove Jennifer Sky completely and extend the story plots and the show would be much better. But as far as trash TV goes, it's stupid and fun. And again, why would one be addicted to watching this??? Hmmmm...
Double Jeopardy (1999)
Ashley Judd at her Finest, Movie could be better
I really enjoyed the movie. Felt the plot was well developed and well writen, but yet something was just missing from it. I think it might have been how the movie was edited. Ashley Judd is just one the finest actress of modern time and is so polished in this movie. It's amazing how she can own those pages of dialogue. Tommy Lee Jones seems to always act the same character in every movie he's in and I believe that might be why I did not rate this movie higher. If you enjoyed this Ashley Judd performance, be floored by her in "Kiss The Girls".
Very Bad Things (1998)
Very Sick, Very Funny - But should I be laughing?
I've watched this movie about 20 times and each time I just find it so funny. But still it's so dark, so demented, so sick that I question - Should I be laughing? Which in truth is what I believe the director and writer were going after. The movie is worth watching every SECOND to see the TRUTH of the plot at the end with Cameron Diaz... Muahahahhaha Muahahahhaha
Charlie's Angels (2000)
Fantastic Fun, Worth The Time, Effort And Money
I was surprised by how well developed the movie was with all problems you heard about on the set and with the cast. I thought the writing was fun, the plot was amazingly well developed and the fight scenes were just stunning. It held true to the orginal shows idea with a modern update without overdoing it, or expecting too much from it. It was perfect for what it was suppose to be. Fun, Action, Women in charge, Hair and clothes! The only thing I was disapointed by was that none of the orginal angels made appearences... They should have shown their support. I actually will be going to see this movie again. Just fantastic fun, great laughs, and good action scenes!
Summer of Sam (1999)
Sex, Drugs, Disco, Punks, Homosexuals, Blacks, Whites, Italians & Murders
One of the most intelligent movies I have seen in some time. I'm not a big Spike Lee fan, but I must saw this film absolutely entertained me and sparked my interest all the way through. Mira & John have the potential for Oscar Nominations. Powerful, captivating, historical correct and intense - the movie does not focus on "Son of Sam" and the murders, but more how the social actions of a mad man allowed people an excuse to be ignorant and the hate crimes surrounding sex, drugs, disco, punk rock, homosexuals, whites and blacks. The soundtrack was amazingly chosen and in a sadistic way added to the atmosphere of the movie. I strongly recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys political intense dramas with humor. Keep your eyes on the Ruby character - there's a lot to her than first impressions lead.
Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken (1991)
Fulfilled Dreams Are Possible
Based on a true story, this movie can't help but lift your spirits and make you believe in life.
It's worth owning in your video library.
Goes on my top 10 favorites movies. Not necessarily for the best acting...but for the portrayal of faith, hope and good ol' fashion determination! Rent it, watch it, buy it.
