The Saint (1962)
The One. The Only. The Original.
By far, one of the best attempts at a Saint live action project. From its inception in October of 1962, the Saint went on to become one of the most influential TV series in the 1960s. To this day, it continues to boast a die hard following, placing it in the same "cult-like" catagory as the Avengers or Mission: Immpossible. A classic, and one of my absolute favorite shows, this show does the character of Simon Templar justice, and proves to be one of Roger Moore's best roles. A pre-Bond Moore is suave and elegant on the screen, with his stunning white Volvo P1800S. A series that will live on long after its cast or crew.
Never Say Never Again (1983)
Who Dropped the 007 Bomb?
This is more than just an adaptation of Bond: it's a plain rip off! With mediocre character sketches that Ian Fleming would not have approved of, this film goes down as the worst 007 movie. An older (even haggard) Connery tries to relive his past 12 years later. The result is a humourless, tacky version of the classic hero. Give me Roger Moore any day!
The Ghost and the Darkness (1996)
An absolute Thrill
An awesome show of effects and spine tingling story line. Val Kilmer is so cool as the bridge builder- turned- hero, and Michael Douglas really stretches his acting muscle with this not- so- clean- cut character. The visuals of the African Savanna are stunning. Gets better every time you see it!
The Saint in New York (1938)
The original.
Although many may argue that the later portrayers of the Saint (Roger Moore, Ian Ogilvy) are better, one has to admit that, for a start, this film is a good start. Hayward has the essence of Templar's quirky humour, and is a good actor in his own right. A must see for any die-hard Saint fan.
Counterstrike (1990)
"No mission is impossible."
One of the best shows ever. I was very upset that this one was cancelled. A Canadian cross between "Mission Immpossible" and "The Avengers". The romantic antics of Simon and Sophie are the greatest. If it can be found in reruns, definitely worth watching.
The Avengers (1961)
Mother Knows Best!!
One of my absolute favorite shows, the Avengers still have class more than thirty years later. Diana Rigg is the best as Mrs. Emma Peel, her style and chemistry with Patrick Macnee is amazing. A true classic. A definite '10.' in my books.
The Saint (1997)
A Very Good Rendition, as it were.
True, this film is not the authentic Saint (As Leslie Charteris developed him), but a good, modern version. The use of the disguises helps to add to the "saint" personna. More of the original humour could have been added, though. Overall, an enjoyable movie.
