The View: Kumail Nanjiani/Coleman Hughes (2024)
Good for Mr. Hughes
The only reason why this episode receives 2 stars vs 0 stars is for Mr. Hughes standing up to the women of the view and their shallow opinions. Whoopi things they have "many different opinions" but really it's just one opinion dressed up in different packaging. Mr. Hughes was able to use his intellect and frankly superiority against them. Sonny has prepared quotes and name drops as an argument but there is no substance and clearly no desire to be introduced to different opinions. I'm glad the audience at least will be given this young man's book and hope that even a few of them will read it with open minds rather than just following the opinions of the View panel like sheep.
In addition, this is one more thing that social media has destroyed in us. Put down your phones, cut off your computers, go meet your neighbors, this how you bridge a divide.
Murder Among Friends: The Lord Taketh (2017)
Neighbours
Who are these neighbours that are faced with someone screaming "Help me, I need to call the police" and they just ignore it? Even if someone tells you that the person is mentally disturbed wouldn't you be like "well why don't we call the police to be sure". It didn't even appear that they were close to their neighbours to trust what they were saying.
MacGyver: Quarantine + N95 + Landline + Telescope + Social Distance (2021)
Doesn't fit
I don't understand the point of this episode or how it fits into the series.
It was like "we need to address Covid and show how woke we are" but then all following episodes proceed as normal.
You opened the door by bringing Covid into the story line/MacGyver universe and then acted as though it didn't exist. Shouldn't each subsequent episode now have them all wearing masks, social distancing, listening to Fauci, not travelling etc.?
It just shows that this is yet another show that no longer cares about writing good story lines (or as good as they were) but rather is out just to deliver it's political and ideological message.
Instinct: I Heart New York (2018)
Something was off...
I find myself wondering if this episode was rewritten or the idea changed half way through. They were trying to create a back story and some tension between Dylan and his father and some how inviting his partner (the detective) to dinner is a huge deal? When Dylan's husband downs the tequila I expected the father to have entered with a new wife on his arm or something.
Then I started to wonder if originally Lizzie had been meant to unknowingly dating Dylan's father. There was mention of her going "on a date" that seemed misplaced.
All in all there isn't enough meat on the bones with regards to the stories. It seems flat and two dimensional and the stories fail under scrutiny.
Even the reasons for the murders didn't make much sense. The people on the subway died because the subway accidentally took too long, the person at the carousel accidentally died because they passed by at the wrong time, the person at the hotel accidentally was killed because they came in at the wrong time, but...the bomb that would kill people on the bridge was intentional?
Instinct: Pilot (2018)
I hope it gets better
I like the premise of this show but something is definitely missing. It fell flat. I felt it was neither good nor bad so I am going to give it a few more episodes to see if I stick with it.
I felt the worst part, and most annoying, was the character of the detective. It felt as though we were watching a high school drama student play a detective. It was not at all believable. It was most annoying when she was speaking to the mayor and she was a talking bobble head.
I like Alan Cummings and I think his character has promise. I hope they add a bit more life, more of Alan Cummings' himself. He's so colourful and vibrant that I want it to come across more.
