xXx (2002)
Great action sequences, Very bad dialogs
I was looking forward to this movie ever since I saw PITCH BLACK several weeks ago. I didn't expect much, just an enjoyable action movie with my new favorite star, Vin Diesel. And still the movie has managed to disappoint me. The action is there all right, and the cinematography was excellent. BUT, a movie requires a basic interesting plot and reasonable dialogs, not to mention good acting. All these were missing !!!
I thought Vin Diesel chose right not to make a sequel to THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS, since it was a pretty stupid movie. But now I have to question his artistic motives, because he comes out quite pathetic in XXX (and to think they are planning a series ...)
If you'll leave your brain outside the theater and forget that Vin Diesel ever played Riddick, then you might enjoy this one.
Pitch Black (2000)
Most effective sci-fi flick
I saw this movie without knowing anything about it so it caught me by surprise. This is no great cinema but it's most effective. I was hooked to my chair from beginning to end. The cinematography is great (although a large wide screen is a must). But most of all I was impressed by Vin Diesel. He was simply so COOL! He is definitly my new favorite action star.
The Perfect Storm (2000)
The storm is indeed perfect but the movie is far from it
If you ever wondered how is it to get stuck on a boat in the middle of a terrible storm then this movie will give you the perfect close experience for that. However, the movie fails in all other aspects. The story is simple and full of cliches, and the acting is bad (especially Diane Lane's).
Prey (1998)
Why stop a good series?
This series arrived to Israel too, where I was able to watch it. It was quite good compared to the average American shows, because it managed to combine sci-fi, tension and romance fairly well. Apparently someone decided it's not good enough and stopped it right in the middle of a cliff-hanger. Needless to say that I like many others around the world still hope it will be renewed.
