Muppet Treasure Island (1996)
Oh dear ...
Well, this is a disappointment to say the least. Too many of the old team are missing (Rowlf being especially conspicuous by his almost total absence). The script is very ropey too and relies far too heavilly on human characters.
Muppet*vision 3-D (1991)
Muppetastic!
3D films are so often a pale, showy imitation of the originals but, as one might expect from such a great team, this movie is spectacular. The combination of movie and theater combine particularly well, most notably when Fozzie blows bubbles out of the screen (which are simultaneously released from the ceiling). This creates an immersive environment that will positively enthrall anyone even remotely interested in the Muppets. Of course, there are the usual terrible gags, madcap puppetry, and bizarre characters. Top class.
Judge Dredd (1995)
Pathetic
Being a long time reader of 2000AD I found this movie a lifeless, shambolic attempt. To my mind, Dredd is as strong a character as Batman, Superman or Robocop, all of whom have had decent movies. Instead of exploring Dredd's world, its politics, and the almost fascist judges and the like, what we have here is a watered down standard action flick with some reasonable visuals. Perhaps there will be a sequel that will do the character some justice (no pun intended). If so, I hope it's a hell of a lot better than this...
