What Dreams May Come (1998)
Hope for the hopeless? Better look to Jesus.
Being an avid movie fan, I had to see if What Dreams May Come was a good movie. After somehow making it all the way through (something I don't recommend), I was disgusted. This movie is a blasphemous, appalling spectacle. The view of the afterlife presented in this film is found no place in the Bible. The Bible presents a very different explanation. Who goes to heaven? Who goes to hell? Where is God? Up "there" somewhere? Ridiculous. I only hope that people are not caught up in this film. Search the Bible for answers, not Hollywood. It appears to give hope to the hopeless. If you are hopeless (as many people are) don't turn to a purely fictional movie, turn to Jesus Christ.
Endurance (1998)
Go with an open mind and Endurance will definitely speak to you too.
Being an avid runner, I searched high and low to find a theater that was showing this film and rushed out to one on June 4th. I sat there with the very small audience and watched for 1 hour 22 minutes. By the time I left the theater, I was really aware of how little perseverance most of us have. When life hands you a bad hand, what do you do? I know what Haile did, he took his bad hand and made it work for him. Although I didn't really like the style used to tell the story (show me, don't tell me), it speaks volumes about the value of perseverance. Don't go expecting another Without Limits, just go. Go with an open mind and Endurance will definitely speak to you too.
Without Limits (1998)
A Wonderful, Compelling Film
"So, how about an easy 10?"
Without Limits is a fantastic movie about American running legend, Steve Prefontaine. Whether you are an avid runner that watched Pre run in person, or if you are someone who couldn't care less about running, this film is really worth watching. A warmly invited movie in this day of mediocre films.
Excellence in film making is seen here in writing, directing, acting, cinematography and scoring. Billy Crudup could pass for Pre's twin brother! The resemblance is almost eerie. The story is compelling. The acting is superb. The music is wonderfully moving. The race sequences... well, they will leave you on the edge of your seat wanting more. The 5000 Meter race at the Munich Olympics is a masterpiece! Using actual footage from 1972 and footage filmed for the movie, the film makers have woven an incredible tapestry of the legendary race.
Whether you are a running fanatic or just someone who loves great movies, Without Limits deserves a "run" from you. Do yourself a favor; order some pizza, sit down with some friends, turn out the lights and let Without Limits take you on a journey! This film speaks volumes about the human spirit and what a stumbling block that vanity can be as well as the joy that comes from holding ourselves to a higher standard than winning.
(the DVD looks incredible!!!)
