Tonari no Totoro (1988)
One of the best movies for families ever
This is one of the best movies for kids and their parents I've ever seen. It's a cartoon fantasy that won't insult the intelligence of grownups. The kids portrayed in the the movie are refreshingly like real-life children, not little comedians who crack snappy one-liners at each other. The adults are caring and compassionate toward the kids. Best of all, the natural world is depicted with loving attention to detail that makes it as magical as the Totoro spirits who inhabit it. By all means see this film!
Ranma ½ (1989)
Hilarious combination of slapstick and romantic comedy
Hilarious combination of slapstick and romantic comedy features two young martial artists, betrothed against their will by their fathers. Ranma, the boy, is cursed to change into a girl when splashed with cold water (he changes back with hot water.) Akane, the girl, is a tomboy with a violent temper. Their messed-up lives are further complicated with rival fiancees and would-be fiancees, etc. Lots of martial arts action, jealous rages, mistaken identities, and knockabout comedy with the occasional tender moment. The strong characterizations make this series a standout and a cult favorite. For more info, there are about a million sites on this series on the Web.
The Horror of Party Beach (1964)
"The Bristol Stomp" was pretty cool
Cheesy schlock featuring radioactive-waste mutated monsters attacking bikini-clad girls on a New Jersey beach. Monsters look like Gill Men with mouths stuffed with hot dogs. They are killed by throwing chunks of metallic sodium at them. To cover all bases, the producers throw in a horribly stereotyped Black maid. Oddly memorable song "The Bristol Stomp" only bright point.
