She's So Fine! (1985)
Hot sex, funny premise: What do you do when the groom is not there?
Story line starts with Gloria Leonard, mom, and Taija Ray, bride, waking up on the morning of the wedding. Taija is waiting for her "something to do with rock star" groom to show, which he never does. Next-door neighbor Paul Thomas and some weird guests show up, from a former boyfriend of Taija's (in a nice coupling, good pop shot, very memorable cuz she says "don't do it... ahhh...") and some rockers who really make a "dog" out of Paul Thomas.
Taija later takes a doggie from Paul. Worth it for the historical value.
Starship Troopers (1997)
Good story, fine direction, good SFX...
Compared to a Star Wars film, this is episodic. The vignettes are a series of events in the life of a Brazilian youth who comes of age in the Mobile Infantry. As a fan of Heinlein, it is hard to realize that many of his best books translate well into screen, but only if you add a love interest. The amount of similarity to Heinlein is at 60% or better, as long as you include the military philosophy, which is a good portion of the book, and a generous portion of the movie.
Lovely execution by the director, who really has a way with battle scenes and military ambiance. The lack of powered armor is, for a reader of the book, a real minus, as it forms a good portion of the book, but if they had powered armor, you would not have seen their faces, and the cost would have been higher. Excellent sound, nice acting, and lovely faces to follow. If you want a great DVD to play, the additional scenes and trailers, and other items, make the DVD worth the purchase.
I would buy some popcorn and pop the DVD in the drive, and crank the stereo up!!
