The Beneficiary (1997)
A Thriller Plus
This is an excellent suspense thriller. Suzy Amis, a police detective, matches wits with a very sly murderer, as portrayed by Stacy Haiduk. This movie has more interesting twists and turns then what you'll find in three suspense thrillers. A ten from start to finish.
The Mask of Zorro (1998)
Glad to see that the "Z" is back!!
It doesn't get much better than this! A totally fresh angle to Zorro, while maintaining its heritage. Casting Anthony Hopkins as Zorro was brilliant, and ditto Antonio Banderas. Then when one thought it couldn't get any better, the movie presented a new superstar onto the screen via Catherine-Zeta-Jones.
The chemistry between Hopkins-Banderas, was absolutely on target as was the chemistry between Zeta-Jones and her two leading men.
This has to be the biggest Swashbuckling Adventure Movie of all times. The only ingredients not preserved from the earlier Zorro movies were the humorous bits between the swishy Don Diego de la Vega and his father and while Antonio Banderas tried his best to give Don Diego a limp wrist, Antonio never really nailed that down.
But the rest of the movie was a 10 all the way. Great humor, action shots, on location authenticity and much more placed The Mask of Zorro as one of the top three great action movies of the nineties.
