The Pretender (2019)
Great guy
Honestly Mike seems like a genuine great guy. Not a crazed fan or sad impersonator at all.
Spoilers:
I just wish they had framed the ending better. The whole time we are wondering if Sly got the book and did he even get to meet him and it was just so anticlimactic in the credit rolls. Felt happy for him but like oh ok. So they met.
Independence Day (1996)
Overall good movie, with a typical Hollywood ending
This is a good movie, and I think most people would agree the first time they saw it in the theater they were impressed. It has comedy, awesome special effects, and one thing that most movies didnt do before this...millions of innocent people die! As the movie progresses after the destruction sequences though it seems to lose its punch, and then the "Hollywoodism's" take over. Hero saves the day, and streching any possibilities becomes standard procedure. Good to watch a couple times, then forget it. Good on the big screen, and even a good home system.
Mission to Mars (2000)
Can you say LAME?? & HOLD THE CHEESE
Give me a break. I mean this film had to have spent some big bucks--on the FX, the actors...but not the writing!!!! Why oh why could they take such a decent idea and turn it into puke? I mean I honestly thought that this was going to be intriguing or at least somewhat stimulating. Once you get past all the commercial plugs (Bud, Dr. Pepper etc.), you find yourself sifting throughout the CHEESE to find the plot. I will say that the FX were awesome, but the whole movie tried to be what other movies are and failed miserably. Save your $$ and wait for video, or even TV!
Twenty One (2000)
Perfect substitute for a tranquilizer!
Ok, so most networks have hopped on the gameshow bandwagon, but this is just sooooooo boring. The music, the cheesy models, MAURY, and the pace, come on! liven it up! The format I realize is taken from the 1950's show, but come on, its 2000. Millionaire and Greed even is so much better.
Kurt & Courtney (1998)
A great depiction of Kurt Cobain's life and death
I watched this movie on DVD recently not really knowing what to expect. As a huge Nirvana fan since my teenage years, I knew I had to watch it, and I'm glad I did. It is a documentary that opens your eyes so much of what Kurt had to go through, and how he reached the top only to lose it all. I had suspicions about his death, whether it was suicide or not. This film brings to light the facts that do raise questions about his suicide, and some sources were good while others were a joke. I still just flat out do not know after watching the movie if he was murdered. The most powerful part of this is how Courtney Love's true colors shine through. She, at her own fault by refusing interviews and information, is seen as a venomous, instable, manipulating, bitch. And in my opinion SHE IS. Like the nanny stated in the film, if she didnt have something do with the murder of Kurt, then she drove him to murder himself. Excellent style by director, interviewer Nick Broomfield. A must see for every Nirvana fan (and Hole/ Courtney Love fan for that matter)!!
The Blair Witch Project (1999)
Excellent, if your in the right mindset...
I can see why many people may have been disappointed by this film. People go into a movie these days expecting sooo much. They want special effects, music, predictable plots etc...Blair Witch has none of this, and that's GREAT!! For once, a different kind of movie. Even after the horrible criticism I heard of this, I watched it on DVD tonight, with my girlfriend and all the lights out-with the inclination we would not like it nor be "scared"...and it scared us both unbelievably. I have never been that scared from a film I will admit. The key is to step into the movie, which they make so easy to do. And I dont care what any tough guy writes, you would be scared sh*tless if you were in that situation. Also, watching the new prelude they have for this (on DVD or rental)helps build the premise and suspense. Excellent job to the makers of this, and I hope they get their cut of the cash.
The Negotiator (1998)
Best suspense of the year
This movie fully demonstrates the possibility of creative screenplay writing. The beauty of this film is that it is action packed (not excessively though), full of edge-of-your-seat suspense, and has powerful acting-WITHOUT having to possess the incredible unrealistic sequences and cheesy one-liners of some of the latest films. Highly recommended.
