Black Hawk Down (2001)
Excellent telling of a real-life story
This movie is a real achievement in faithfully telling the actual events as they happened back in 1993. I imagine some people might say Black Hawk Down was not as "entertaining" as they had hoped. All I can say to that is thank God it wasn't another `Pearl Harbor'! This movie is as a case study of modern warfare.
Unlike "Pearl Harbor", this movie is made in the tradition of "Tora! Tora! Tora" and "The Longest Day" in its straightforward and objective portrayal of the events. It is based on the meticulously researched book by Mark Bowden. There are no Rambo-like cartoon heroics. This makes the bare-bones bravery and dedication the movie portrays much more credible
as well as incredible.
Beer Money (2001)
For a Rip-off and Merge of a lot of Comedies - Not too shabby
Given that I had the lowest expectations for this movie, it was actually a pretty fun movie to watch. The characters were pretty funny, acting not bad, and it moved at a quick pace. What more can you ask from a "USA Network Original Movie"?
It was a bit annoying to see blatant rip-offs of various scenes from more successful comedies (i.e. Dumb&Dumber, The Man Show, etc.), but it worked in that it gave the audience a chance to play a game of "Name that Tune" of stolen comedy bits.
Besides, its good to see Zack from "Saved by the Bell" has finally gotten some new acting work!
Moonraker (1979)
John-597 is absolutely correct- Moonraker is one of the best!
John-597 is absolutely correct!
Moonraker is one of the most enjoyable Bond films for its complete package of excellent stunts, special effects, gadgets, beautiful women, and Globe-trotting plot. We even have closure for Jaws! Given that nearly ALL Bond films are (just a bit) far fetched, this one at least gives a rather unique plot with a double dose of technology and eye-candy!
Nuremberg (2000)
Movie made solely to feed the ego of Alec Baldwin
This movie was disappointing. It was incomplete and dull. While Alec Baldwin tried to portray himself as the Perfect fair and just prosecutor (not to mention executive producer), the movie never showed any of the defense counsels or tried to challenge the audience with an actual meaningful debate on the subject of how a country could be led down such a terrible path.
Sure, nobody wants to defend the Nazi's point of view, but THAT WAS THE POINT of the Nuremberg Trails! Four hours of simply bashing on the Nazi's.... c'mon! Thats been done already!
I really think Alec Baldwin should just stick to being Kim Bassinger's husband.
Right after the movie ended, TNT showed the 1959 movie, Trail at Nuremberg. That movie is FAR superior.
Go (1999)
Cheap Pulp Fiction Rip-off
The writer/director had the right idea trying to plagiarize "Pulp Fiction", but missed the mark.
While keeping the viewers interest by intertwining several semi-related stories, none of them actually go anywhere. There is a lot of extraneous... stuff.... akin to a comic telling joke after joke but leaving out the punch line.
Do yourself a favor and rent Fargo instead.
