Hannibal (2001)
This is not Silence of the Lambs, Part 2!
Everywhere I go online, I see comments about people not liking Hannibal. How it's horrible, disgusting, nothing like Silence of the Lambs.
BINGO!
This isn't a part two. There is no kidnapped woman for Starling to try to rescue. It's all about Hannibal, hence the title. Starling is only a supporting character in this movie, and I think Julianne Moore did an extraordinary job, considering the shoes she had to fill.
Yes, Hannibal is much slower-paced than most people would prefer. In this fast paced world, people want things now. They want to be told what the movie is about, not to have to figure it out on their own. Hannibal takes its time. You have to wait a bit to actually see the title character. This film requires patience.
Shame on everyone out there who dares compare this to Silence. Silence of the Lambs is perhaps one of the best thriller/suspense movies out there. But for me, Hannibal is a guilty pleasure, and I enjoy it on a different level than Silence.
The 6th Day (2000)
Arnold's best work lately
Remember the good ol' Arnold of yesteryear? Like in T2, or Total Recall? Then look no further! Forget End of Days or Batman and Robin. He's back in his element of entertaining sci-fi.
The Sixth Day is very formulaic, but that doesn't necessarily detract from the movie. Michael Rapaport and Robert Duvall provide good support, and Tony Goldwyn is pretty creepy ... Bill Gates, anyone?
Overall, it's a movie that doesn't require much thought, which can be nice sometimes. Sit back and enjoy the special effects.
Judas Kiss (1998)
Review of Judas Kiss
This movie was a pleasant surprise for me. In all honesty, the previews looked horrible, up until the point where Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman appeared. So I rented it with reservation, but I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It had great acting, a few good plot twists, and, of course, Emma Thompson and Alan Rickman. It's definitely worth checking out.
Blade Runner (1982)
Sci Fi film noir
Blade Runner is a classic science fiction movie. It was the first to really carry the film noir feeling, something that is fairly common in science fiction now. Instead of having a bright, happy future, it was dark and depressing.
Harrison Ford truly shined as a cynical cop, as did all the other actors. God bless Brion James, who passed away in 1999.
Mitchell (1975)
MST3K rules!
This movie is actually pretty good if you watch the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of it. It still is a horrible movie but it is much more enjoyable! I don't know how many times I've seen this movie, but it keeps getting funnier everytime.
Chun gwong ja sit (1997)
Doorway to Hong Kong cinema
There is nothing quite like Chung King Express in American film, so it's hard to describe to one who has yet to see this wonderful movie. Wong Kar -wai is an exceptional director, and given the chance, everyone should see this movie.
