December Boys (2007)
Great Movie
17 September 2007
My husband and I loved this movie. Finally a movie where you actually care about the characters.

The acting is marvelous, the story is touching and the scenery is magnificent. Not only does every actor in the movie look their part, they are believable for a change. As the movie progresses, it's like you've been invited along on the trip to the cove with these four young orphans to see how they deal with the hand they're dealt.

The people they meet during their holiday by sea are exactly what you'd expect. Regular folks with real life emotions, dreams and problems.

This was a bold movie by Hollywood's standards. No car chases, explosions, swearing or ego-feeding in this movie. Just great entertainment.

For people out there who love good movies; go see this one. It's made the way movies ought to be. Good story, smart dialogue and a believable representation of the subject matter. We loved it! Great Entertainment. Four thumbs up!

Great filmmaking
22 July 2004
I recently saw this film on television (July 2004). Wonderful locations - Filmed in Louisiana This is a wonderful piece of filmmaking. Great casting, direction and photography. The entire cast and crew should be proud. For me, there were only two slightly predictable moments, however... the storytelling is excellent. A period piece that stays true to it's time (no hip dialogue). Clothing, vehicles, props were all right on. I highly recommend this motion picture.

Open Range (2003)
Filmmaking at its Finest
1 December 2003
This is, in my opinion, one of the finest motion pictures ever made. The acting raises the bar for modern day filmmaking and the direction is flawless. The photography is majestic, the stunts believable and the sets and wardrobe magnificent. Quite frankly, this is filmmaking at its finest and Mr. Costner should be extremely proud of his film and his crew. Every scene in this film stands out and the short dream sequence is perhaps the most realistic dream scene ever filmed.

Mr. Duvall, Ms. Benning and Mr. Costner are riveting and the supporting actors, story and dialogue convincingly take us, the viewer, on an incredible ride to another time and place.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the production of this motion picture. You've made a great movie! Whatever recognition you receive for your work is well deserved.

less than entertaining...
7 August 2001
Given all the talent in this project, it's hard to believe they could end up with something so... worthless. I'm sure it made a lot of money, however, to us there wasn't anything entertaining about it. It was beyond silly and the story was weak at best.

A wonderful picture. To those of you who haven't seen this film... do yourself (and your family) a favor and watch it. Everyone involved in the making this film should be proud. The acting is incredible. The storytelling heartwarming. The photography magnificent... and the music absolutely sensational.

High Noon (2000 TV Movie)
A remarkable remake
30 September 2000
To "remake" any picture is tough. However, to remake a such a classic Western feature for television is a brave assignment. The filmmakers should be commended for staying with the story line, not trying to "hip it up" and pulling off what so many other filmmakers have missed... a wonderfully updated version of an original that's worthy (of the original picture) as well as entertaining. In some ways this "remake" was better than the original. The photography was beautiful, the cast convincing and the direction never let us wander. Congratulations on the recreation of a wonderful classic.
