I Married Dora (1987)
Funny Show with a memorable final scene.
"I Remember Dora" was one of those great shows that nobody watched. Elizabeth Pena was funny and beautiful. I also remember the last episode having an extremely jarring ending. It had one of the characters leaving the family to take a job in another country. He goes through the door to the plane, leaving the family in tears. He comes back a moment later. "what's wrong?", he is asked. "It was canceled," he replies. "What, the flight?" "No, our series!" At which point the camera pulls back, revealing the sets, lights and crew, and everyone turned and waved good-bye to the camera. I was 13 and remember this being EXTREMELY disturbing, but a brave wink to the few fans the show had.
Training Day (2001)
Good Movie, but Ethan should have won, not Denzel
I am a Denzel Washington fan. But I was disappointed by Training Day. Maybe I waited too long to see it, and had heard too much hype. But not once during the viewing did I forget that I was watching Denzel. He didn't disappear into his character. It was Denzel being gritty, Denzel cursing, Denzel being corrupt.
Ethan Hawke on the other hand was amazing. He looked and acted like a young recruit. His acting registered every emotion the script called for.
Good film, but the wrong star got the Oscar.
Stuart Little (1999)
Skip it, read the book
Cute movie, but they should have made up a new title. Even my five year-old said it was "not at all" like the book. They left out the character of Margalo, the bird, who was a driving force in the book. There was not a neat happy little ending to the book either. And Stuart was never adopted. Where did that whole story line come from? They must have mixed up the pages with the Annie script.
Star Trek: Insurrection (1998)
A satisfying film.
Way Cool! It had the feel of a really good two-parter TV episode. Nothing too unbelievable or out of character.
My favorite sight gag: The Enterprise's joy stick popping up for Riker to go in for the kill. An homage to the gamers of the world.
Most characteristic moment: Worf refusing to sing Gilbert and Sullivan.
Very satisfying.
