A really annoying movie
16 April 2007
From a neglected , mistreated , sexually abused ugly little girl, Piaf turns out to be a neglected , mistreated , sexually abused ugly young woman who then becomes a drunk, sick, insecure, drug addicted nervous , domineering, ugly superstar with a croaking voice. Audience is relieved when Piaf dies prematurely, and only in her lazy moments she manages to become a nice person, perhaps because so many of her brain cells are already dead.

I must admit that I have yet to write a review worse than this. I liked Piaf when I came into the theater, but I now fail to understand what people saw in her. Avoid this movie if you possibly can. Pretend to be sick if someone buys you a ticket

The songs are nice

Good WWII Thriller, implausible plot
29 December 2005
Warning: Spoilers
As a history buff I was amazed by the evolving plot where Himmler saves the rich Jewish Krauzenberg family, in order to take over their fast fortune. good acting, somewhat predictable directing. We sat glued to our seats, watching the evil roll before our eyes. When I came home ; checked the history and found out that the whole story is fiction, I became a little annoyed. Playing with the horrible holocaust story in this particular us distasteful, IMHO.

So, th eplt was, after all, imlausible.

Martin Landau did an excellent job as Josef Krauzenberg, and so did his "wife" Judy Parfitt. Kenny Daughty and Caroline Carver looked far too British when they tried to portray the young Jewish couple masquerading as German Aryans in Hungary

One of the most boring movies you'll ever see
10 March 2004
Thankfully , the terrorist attacks ended the boring , multi-lingual dialog , when I could not stand it any more. The ancient director managed to bring together some of the finest actors in moviedom , each speaking his own language, having the most boring , pseudo intellectual conversations the screen has ever seen, in a cacophony of English , French, Greek and Portuguese and in between some elementary school level guided tours to famous cities along the Mediterranean. Some of the photography is indeed captivating , if you have never been to Pompeii or to Athens , then you might as well visit them on the screen. This is really a Horrible movie, shown at festivals around the world.

The emperor's new clothes.

Lovely , very French movie
14 October 2003
Film takes places during the famed French "Vacances". Constance, the heroine meets her former boyfriend , Martin, by chance, at a supermarket. It has been five years since they separated and both are now married and have to do all the chores as parents. Constance , with her macho , lustful husband come to visit her former boyfriend at his vacation home. Will they find their lost love again?

Lovely movie, very French, funny at times, moving at others. Definetely worth seeing

Silly, annoying, don't waste your time
28 October 2002
What a waste of talent!! Even a farce should be funny, or witty, or entertaining. This one is neither!! The plot is so stupid, acting so bad, characters so shallow, that even as a parody (about mystery movies) it's bad. If you say: Well, it's a musical, what would you expect? My opinion is that even as a musical, it's not worth seeing. These actresses cannot sing or dance very well..

This could have been a nice , forgettable amateur theater production in some provincial town. As a big screen movie, it's a total waste of your time.

Excellent French Film
22 May 2001
I recently saw this movie in a jet lagged night in Korea. Screened on a French TV channel, it is about an anxiety ridden book publisher and his relationships with people near and dear. Very humane, sensitive and funny, and very French, it is a movie worth seeing on a sleepless night!!

Deeply moving convincing recollection of the holocaust
12 March 2000
Deeply moving convincing recollection of the holocaust. Spielberg has created what must be one of the most shocking presentations of man's brutality on one side, and the bravery of few among the cruelty of the Nazi era. Several years after seeing the movie, I can't stop thinking about it.
