In a world full of gigantic fight against the end of the world (because all superheroes save the world) or terrible views of hideous superheroes that hide a villain under the mask. We finally find an everyday man, with an everyday life in an everyday neighbourhood. It entertains without cause anxiety and it the yoga of superheroic series

It is what it is - a fun comedy with a minor superhero element

The show had good performances all around from the leads to the supporting room mate roles. It feels like a show that would fit right in at in the vain of a Fox show such as Brooklyn Nine Nine or The Last Man on Earth. It is an easy watch at about 30 minutes per episode with nothing too serious and some decent special effects and decent acting. I'm not sure what these other people are expecting with their low reviews. I'm glad to see a non-American made show on Netflix with a focus on fun instead of a focus on superheroes (probably where some of the negative reviews come from). I enjoyed the season as did my wife and we hope to see a second season.
Good fresh and funny series

Sweet Sweet José Pamón
owen-watts12 August 2021
My first ever Spanish series is this comic book adaptation and suburban superheroic sitcom. Glorious fun with a deeply endearing cast and charismatically unpretentious. A fair amount of it is quite clunky and awkward but it works with it and there are some magnificent moments dotted throughout. Sad that we'll not see more of it - but a cute and diverting series and a characterful introduction to the world of Spanish TV. Also, I've never related more to a character than José Pamón. He is my king.
The Stoner Guy (Litos or Camello) Steals the Show
leftbanker-131 December 2019
If you're looking for a superhero series, this isn't for you. This is based on a small group of people living mostly next door to each other and one of them just happens to have super powers. The rest of the story comes from their interactions. This series is about real human beings, so if you're after something else, go elsewhere.
The series deserves a lot of praise for attacking a parasitical industry in modern Spain: the now ubiquitous neighborhood casinos. They have truly become a plague in the country and amount to a heavy tax on the underclass.
The short episode format is a definite plus as so many series on Spanish TV run way too long (as well as every other country these days). I'm so sick of two hour movies that shouldn't even run 90 minutes. 23 minutes isn't much of a time commitment.
It's billed as a comedy and it is very funny at times. To be exact, it's funny in every scene in which Camello appears (or Litos "Soy Litos, solo mi madre me llama Carlos"). He is the marijuana dealer for the apartment block and he is freaking hilarious. He has brought to life a new archetype of the Spanish stoner. He's so much funnier than Sean Penn's Spicoli or Keanu Reeves's forays into playing druggies.
It's a simple idea and an even simpler execution. The budget for this was probably twenty thousand times less than any series on Netflix. The only places where the low budget is problematic are in the special effects scenes which are so awful that they should have just left them out altogether. Lots of shows have great special effects and they are complete rubbish. This show has real people which I don't se very often on TV.
If the writers of this show are reading this, humor isn't about awkward situations. Most of the attempts at "humor" in this show are I Love Lucy crap from the 1950s.
Even though I gave this 10 stars and said some good things about the series, my review hasn't been well received, so it's time to take the gloves off (I also lowered my rating, for F you all). There were a million ways this series could have gone, yet they chose the most tedious path imaginable. Without the humor of Camello, this would have been a total disaster. Unfortunately, he plays a minor role. The two principals are annoying, at best.

We've seen a lot of superheroe movies and series. This serie can provide us with dome entertainment time but this does not occur in most scenes. The principal character is way to stupid. The only thing positive about this is as allways Clara Lago. Great and wonderfull actress
1st season was great 2nd 👎🏾
miapjo27 May 2021
Why did you have to transform the characters into dumb, silly, imbeciles in the 2nd season, really childish writing! The whole Lola Julia twist is ridiculous and unnecessary! Neta, que lastima que lo echaron a perder! Me encanto when Javier imitated us Mexicans, it was funny a gem of a piece! As another comment stated, lost potential!!!
Surprisingly entertaining and fun

Saw the trailer and gave it a go, but was not expecting too much, because of the low budget production that becomes evident after seeing the trailer.
It turns out that the show is very very good. I ended up watching the 5 first episodes in a row.
The acting is very good (mainly from the main character), and the simplicity of the environment along with the writing is excellent.
Very refreshing show within a story that is not new (a normal guy that ends up with powers), which makes even more relevant the great writing here.
I genuinely laugh a lot, which is something very hard to find (at least for me) on most of the comedy shows from last years ( and some with high budgets).

Netflix Posions Spanish Comedy
vanvance28 May 2021
The first season of El Vecino is very light, breezy comedy largely focused on establishing characters and relationships. All is well for undemanding but amusing sitcom style entertainment. The second season Netflix strikes! Suddenly the normal heterosexual relationships are forced aside in favor of Woke gay propaganda. Netflix is particularly obsessed with lesbians and thus the two lead women are forced into an inorganic relationship that the first season never suggested. The breaking of relationships and focus on radical left propaganda poisons the series, destroying the comedy.
Spanish culture is unique; it is the worst kind of colonialism to force American Woke idiocies upon them. Netflix is bullying creators to the detriment of the end product.

Wasted potential on a promising series
koskos-1317818 January 2020
The tv series started all good at first 2 episodes with a good promising scenario then ended up grinding and repetitive with just a very few times had a small grin on my face with some average scenes. Wasted potential on what could have been a great series
Plays with the superhero trope

Don't waste your time watching this! A promising story that ultimately destroys any plot/character development

Warning: Spoilers
Good premise but then killed it with the bias "women can do no wrong" trope. Lola acts self-centered throughout but then blames Javier when he does the same? Why is she mad that he didn't tell her his secret identity? He didn't owe her a single dang thing. Same way she didn't clear with him before she started sleeping with Rober. Then at the end, she self-centeredly forces him to reveal his secret by breaking his hand? Just so that what she can find out the source of his powers and be the heroine? I think she just doesn't like it when she's not the center of attention. Don't even get me started on the insufferable blonde chick with her one-sided views riddled with political bias. JR's girlfriend was just insufferable, controlling and selfish. Honestly, the directors took a good show and turned it into another political opinion machine. It's so annoying when Netflix gives you 9 good episodes of a show only to completely destroy it in the last episode.

Warning: Spoilers
It's about a guy with little courage that suddenly won superpowers. With his new skills, he tries very hard to get back with his ex-girlfriend whilst struggling to get through life. He cannot seem to get his objectives even with his new superpowers being quite annoying. The secondary characters include his ex, his ex's flatmate and a guy from a little town that has just come to Madrid who becomes his best friend.
The series is shot in a traditional social housing neighborhood. Being the small flats and the old bars there.
The series is highly political, the plot resembles the left-wing ideals of the extremist left parties in Spain, being the bad the companies, the guys with suits and people who have a flag of Spain. The good guys are the homeless, the drug-dealers and the inmigrants.

An extremely naive, simple humor, ideal for having a good time.

"El Vecino" is really very entertaining, has a very good sense of humor, is well acted and written. Without a doubt you will find in it an extremely naive, simple humor, ideal for having a good time. I understand that this is what is proposed and it is really accomplished.

Refreshing Superhero Comedy
xetaprime-6425728 January 2020
Though during the 10 episode run there isn't much superhero-ing going on, it is a constant underlying theme with lots of future potential. The characters are likable, believable and well written. You root for their success and enjoy their human flaws. Some of the humor is perfectly unexpected and laugh out loud funny. Episodes are half hour in length and that's just fine. When one ends you're ready for more. Really enjoyed this series! Glad I took a chance on it.
