As a huge purveyor of action and martial arts cinema, I started this film with skepticism. I've pretty much seen it all, from Bruce Lee and Gordan Liu to prime Jackie, Jet and Donnie, to American stars like Van Damme.Seagal, to recent stars like Iko and Adkins. With that stated, this film is a much needed throwback to the days of prime Jet Li, ala Fist of Legend.
Gone is the shaky cam and the quick camera cuts that ruin so many action films in America today. This movie consists of tremendous, steady camera work that allows you to see all the incredible, bone-crunching moves. Bruce Khan is exceptionally talented and lightning fast - it's stunning that this is his first starring role. The fight are tremendously choreographed and there are fights that encapsulate everything - 1 vs 1, 1 vs group, weapons battles and 2 vs 1. There are even badass women to top it all off. The action isn't the only thing that's golden either - the acting is great and it's full of laugh-out-loud humor.
The Revenger is my favorite martial arts film since The Raid 2 and my favorite Netflix original film thus far. If you are a fan of action cinema, you absolutely don't want to miss it.
